As for what he is looking for at his next stop, Mesidor said the most important factor is where he lines up and his path to the field.

“I’d like to play defensive end and a little bit of 5-technique,” Mesidor said. “So I’d like to go to a school that doesn’t have a lot of depth and is ready for me to come in and be a factor as I’m ready to come in, work hard and take my spot. I just want to be at a school that will let me rush from the 5-technique and play how I want to play and give me the freedom to just ball and play football the way I play it.

Asked if the desire to play defensive end had something to do with him leaving West Virginia, Mesidor said: “Yes.” Mesidor started as West Virginia’s nose tackle nine times during the 2021 season, per PFF College.

Why upset with the quote? Portal kids look for playing time and 90% of time going back home or closer to home. This "pass" thing is absurd by canes fans. No DE in our team has his size or his production at P5 level. That is without going into depth issues.

We have a bunch of guys that fill this role. Is he differentiated? I want a interior 330+ lb hoss who makes Jordan Miller chase him for snaps. Or a short burst pass rush end specialist along the line.

I was in the camp that said the ship sailed with Dorlus but for Mario to be so quiet regarding our need for depth at DT especially behind JMiller...Dorlus must be in play they are just waiting until after Spring. Our DT depth is about as bad as our LB depth.

I agree! But only in proven talent linebackers have bodies and defensive tackles have talent just not enough bodies.

Again, without referring to Dorlus specifically, the majority of Portal kids have had substantial conversations with their preferred choice(s) before they ever enter the Portal.

So if Mario is passing on an existing Portal kid, then he must already have an idea of what his options are, or will be, regardless of CURRENT Portal-status.
