ACC pride and Big 3 unity

It was very, very similar. The Noles in my area were typically "party dude" types who were alums/children of alums. Gator fans were ridiculously arrogant, entitled douche rakes. Only later did I realize how entitled Noles are too, especially when they ain't winning.

This entitlement leads them to see Miami as something of an "impostor," taking what is rightfully theirs.

Honestly, they are really ******* similar, but Gators are dorkier and snobbier. Both fanbases are profoundly ignorant of football Xs and Os, and often their own team. I think the Noles have gotten dorkier over time, too, making them even more like Gators.

I know several people who did U-grad at one and grad at the other of the state schools.

Bascially, they're all the same. Miami is the school, program, and fanbase that actually breaks the mold.
Dude, your knowledge of this state and its people is epic

Interesting take on it. Are you saying the older fans root for FSU/UF to lose always?

To me UF is easy, they suck and they are SEC so it’s different. But I do hope ACC teams are successful in OOC games, especially vs the SEC.

Grew up in S. FL and half my friends from that time are FSU with a few being UF.

When they were beating us 5 or whatever years in a row, some of them mentioned how it wasn't even fun. It was like kicking a dog when it's down. So yeah, they'd rather we be on similar levels. We're all old enough to have been at some of our epic battles in person or at least watching it on television.

Surely you're not so obtuse to realize where I might dislike Kelly from.

The FSU game may be the biggest game for you, suppose it still can be, but it's just been a battle of who sucks more. Talk trash, we suck, you suck even more. Nothing better than beating those guys when they're at their prime. Knowing you're in for a game. Watching VT games to see them lose, **** dude, find some joy in your life as that's lame as ****.

As for what they think of us, maybe you need to get out more. Nobody carries on the we're thugs or whatever mantra more than our own fans. It's creepy actually. That **** died out 20 plus years ago aside from some outlier fans.

College GameDay, last I saw it was when we hosted it. Softening of America, please. When both schools were balling, there was respect between the two programs. Heated battles on the field, but handshakes and congrats around afterwards. Fans don't get this, most of then anyhow.
I'm just going to jump on into this argument uninvited. We have a difference of opinion which I believe is predicated on that fact that you want the UM-FSU game to mean something, and it doesn't if both teams aren't good.

I would prefer it if the game meant nothing. To be clear, I don't care about the past and what it has meant, or the future and what it could mean. FSU (and UF for that matter) is the enemy here. I want them to be an afterthought. I want them to go 0-12 every year. I want alumni who went to the school for football reasons to regret their choice. I want prospective students to go there because they are a basketball (or whichever other sport) school. I want whatever impact they've made to our history as a program to end, and for them to have been a part of our history and not continue to be. I want them to remember the days where they could compete with UM as their golden years, never to be repeated again.

"But what about games that mean something?" Well, we can create new rivals. We don't need FSU to be good for the ACC to be good, every conference has the ones that are just along for the ride.

And yes, once we create new genuine rivalries I will feel this way about those schools too.

There were- and still are (just loo at social media)- lots of UF/FSU watch parties. Same friends, high schools, family, etc.

I've literally never done such a thing with either of those fanbases, and never will. Never been invited to one either.

Always figured UM fans were unanimous in wanting to see UF and FSU get their asses kicked, but it appears that's incorrect.

Seen and heard Canes fans over the weekend talking about "we should be happy" when ACC schools win non-conference games, especially in high-profile matchups like FSU-LSU at the Superdome.

And also that UF beating seventh-ranked Utah helps Miami because "it's good for College Football when the Big 3 are successful."

Been pulling against the Noles and Gators my entire football-watching life (darn near 50 years), but have I in fact been doing it wrong?

Is College Football really about supporting your sworn enemies and conference rivals for the greater good?
The enemy (Semenholes and UiF) want nothing but bad for us (they like to call us scUM, racist names and other things) and want to keep us down and dead and ya’ll want to root for them when they play out of conference to boost up the conference in the case of FSPOOO? Fvk that!!!

I was pulling for FSU for a couple of reasons.
Having FSU ranked in my opinion helps us in the polls especially when we beat them. Gives the perception of a stronger conference, which like it or not is beneficial in the poll rankings. It's all about eye candy.
Another reason ? I particularly enjoy watching LSU and now Brian Kelly loose.
Should LSU had won, that just piles on the "SEC is the undisputed king of CFB"
LSU lost snd the SEC is still the undisputed king of CB.

Now what?

Lol at telling Meeee to get out more. I just flew in from The Bahamas where i flew and drove boats to two different islands...and found time to hit a pool party with Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak yesterday....while placing bets on college football.

VT is our biggest rival next to FSU ...im supposed to watch their games hoping they win?. lol My joy in life is watching and coaching football...its even more fun watching fsu and vt lose while we win...it isnt that hard to figure out.

The whole...were thug mantra didnt die out at all....you are obviously on this board and dont see the post in GATOR TEARS OR NOLE TEARS on their fans spewing the same b.s. they always do. Its been even bad with NIL being a factor. They think Ruiz runs a cartel or is in the mafia for godsakes.

All i know is you posted alot of nothing. Im born n raised in south florida and watched all the intense battles as well. Coached a current Nole starter...played high school with a former nole starter..had a cousin starting for them recently at te in the late 2016...an still dont give a f*ck if they win another game. Just cause you have a soft spot for them for whatever reason of nostalgia or whatever doesnt mean fans that dislike them are doing it wrong considering they are our biggest rivals.
Also doesnt mean im walking around grumpy all day thinking about fsu and uf. I talk the most sh*t with my friends and family who are fsu fans and even the kid i coached. I have favorite fsu players i respect..i respected bobby bowden as a coach as well as Odewll Haggins..it is what it is.

That's a really interesting perception ... not sure I ever quite connected the dots in that way.

I started living and dying with the Canes well before the Gators tucked their tails between their legs and tapped out in the late 1980's.

Didn't give a **** about Big East football when we joined (still love Big East hoops to this day, though). Hate the ACC in all sports and will be happy if/when we leave.

Not gonna say these younger folks are wrong. Hey, your fandom is your fandom.

But for us old-heads (and I know I'm not the only one), the joy of FSU of UF losing was and is surpassed only by Miami winning.

I don't think I could change that part even if wanted to or it "made sense" to do so.

This.

I've lived up here in North Florida my whole life: UF-FSU is a bigger rivalry for them than either school playing UM.

BUT, Noles and Gators both HATE the Canes — particularly when we're winning — more than they do one another.

It's a cultural thing with Miami/international city/Canes swagger as opposed to UF and FSU being geographical neighbors and sister schools in the state of Florida.
Is it called incest, when two sisters love each other? Just asking…

For me 1A is the gator.
1B is Norte Lame. As much as I dislike Taint, I was glad to see them expose those frauds.
2 is the semenholes although I do respect the fact that Bowden never shunned us.

For us old heads, hatred of everything gator goes back years before we became nationally prominent. “The flop” was icing on the cake.

Get out more? Maybe you should open your eyes and ears .... the "Thug" fanbase impression of Miami is alive on a national level. That **** didn't die out in the minds of the national college football fans 20 plus years ago. Are you kidding? Ever go to the Rivals main board ... Canes and canes fans as "thugs" is alive and thriving. I want FSU and UF to lose every single game they play ... ever.
