A note on high school QBs...

Da Gawd isn’t a blue chip? Wasn’t he at the Elite 11? 😂
I’ll take Emory in 2026 for the depth chart and help running practices and helping the young guys. That can help in this day and age when it’s hard to keep a depth chart at QB

Not saying you here and not trying to be a douchebag but I think he’s gotten enough **** over the years where we should probably just let it go

I love the kid’s moxy, work ethic, and IQ.

@DMoney How do the Canes--or any team really--keep the QBs on the roster while also looking to see whether there is a transfer portal QB that fits? In other words, how do they keep Nickel happy while looking around this offseason?
And too piggy-back...

When do the big money programs start recruiting guys and placing them at G5 schools or FCS programs like was done back in the 90s with Hargraves and some of these other prep schools and military schools?

right which is like what the ceiling for a QB3-4 should be these days

Start talking crazy about these guys starting or being first off the bench and it gets sketchy

Seems like our recruiting is staying solid. Guys like Nickel and Coleman not playing any games during the process was nice as well. Having backups put you through last minute bidding wars is a nightmare at other schools

I don't know. I think the only solution is constantly searching for affordable HS arms and hoping one hits.

In my opinion, our HS quarterback recruiting should be all about ceiling. Get big, multisport kids with good arms and good character, even if their fundamentals stink. A low floor is fine because we can always grab someone from the Portal.

The most overrated thing in high school scouting is technique. According to Urban Meyer, Joe Burrow was a disaster when he first got to Columbus. He had spent so much of his time playing basketball that he was behind in football. But he also had way more upside to grow. That's what coaches are for.

Days of recruiting an elite highschool qb is gone. No one is willing to mortgage their future on a first year qb newcomer. Nor should they

YET
Cam Ward - 0 star.
Drew Mestemaker didn't start in HS - 0 star. (sat behind https://247sports.com/player/miles-teodecki-46154269/ and punted)

Somewhere, a kid is playing in a run-heavy Offense or sitting behind a bigger name. Judd actually fit the type (big arm, 6'5, can run) , but I wasn't impressed with the accuracy.

I'm good with the path we are on: Luke, Coleman... I'd love to take it up another level in '27 and '28 with Lawrence (likely '27) and Monds (Vero kid in '28).

While the portal is great right now, I believe we will see employment contracts soon, which makes the transfer portal a little more difficult for all parties.
