A note on high school QBs...

At some point we have to hit on a multi year high end starter from the HS ranks or we will be forever in a cycle of overpaying for a portal starter
that sounds great, 20-4, playoffs, hesiman finalist, etc...

oh no we not gonna be 7n5 every year and irrelevant with pick throwing QBs.. :jordan:

Its not the high school QBs are bad, its just that you wont have the time for them to sit if they are expensive are afforded years for them to take lumps on the field when other plays may transfer.

Any program that's not actively taking portal QB's is doing it wrong. The data is clear and obvious.

HS QB's should be trying to go to programs that will let them play as a freshman or a place that will pay them like Texas or Michigan did.

Get the bag now or go to a place with the path to the bag.

Which one of you are Timothy Johnson?

I think our model is a good one. But I just have a question.
How much developing are we actually doing with the backups like Nickel or even Judd? From what I hear, they hardly get any practice reps during the season. Which makes sense. And how does Dawson balance being the coordinator vs developing kids who won’t see the field that season?

I wonder if it would be worth it to have a dedicated qb coach that works with the kids that won’t be playing that year and gets them ready to truly audition in the offseason for the backup role?

Well, I am pleased to say we have a staff trying to win NC's here so those who know, know. With some players not entering the draft that were expected to earlier this season and the TR FR that have stepped up, I think we have a good shot at the playoffs again next season. 2 losses in the ACC is borderline, missing the playoffs. We are trying to win NC's.

The staff will do portal qbs until they know someone they recruited is a dude. That **** simple, it’s not a difficult concept to process if you use your brain. And they don’t know if a hs qb is a dude until he does it in practice. Not some bs practise reporting that everyone is doing well talk

There are also certain things that are difficult to clean up. I don’t know what specifically Meyer saw as a disaster, but Burrow’s release wasn’t that wild. His footwork may have been out of whack. Before we played him (at LSU), I wrote a post about him here and was really impressed with his delivery and accuracy in the OSU spring game. So, they cleaned it all up very quickly. Almost magically.

In short, I dont know if it’s that easy to just ‘coach up’ an entirely new set of mechanics from the ground up.

I’m actually surprised CJ Bailey’s compacted his release (which sometimes still gets long)as much as he has. It was outrageous in HS. That’s usually a flaw stuck with the QB forever. Like a bad hitch in a jumpshot.
I think private QB coaching has really set off. The amount of QBs in ******* HS working with coaches who work with NFL QBs is extremely and just appears to increase as time goes on.

Scrimmages for players who don't play in the games (typically on Sunday). Throwing groups with receivers who don't typically play. Hopefully they're doing VR on their own.

Film sessions with assistants. Workouts catered to their positions with S&C (even if assistant).

Every position has developmental guardrails in place for players to grow. Admittedly, it is more difficult for scout players to develop, but there are opportunities.

I'm willing to bet there's some heavy overlap on the ol' Venn diagram with the screaming of "No moar portal rentals at QB! ReCRuIT aND dEVeloP high school kids!" with the old narrative of "We'll NEVER actually be able to hang money-wise with the big boys in the NIL era!"

The inability of some to take the L on the latter now fuels new idiocy with the former. And especially so when they now want to (over)spend money they predicted we'd never have in a moronic manner on unproven high school QBs.

But disirregardless I digress. I'm new around here and just wanted to say I'm really enjoying the site. Looking forward to potentially meeting some of you in the Blue Lot.
