U do not have to be a **** to get kids to fear u or buy in to your system. Respect needs to be earned... Calling kids out their names to make to make them fear is old school and not going to work now a days, the days of saying anything you want to a kid is over.

Argument is invalid. The Top 3 teams have HCs that are UBER ****heads

Again, it has nothing to do with being a "****head" or not. It has to do with managing personalities so that you get the best out of your players and you can't approach every player the same way. Our head coach said this himself in the VT raising 'canes episode. If Nick Saban treated every player the same way and didn't adjust the way he treated them based on what he thought the best motivational tactic for them was, he'd be a ****** coach, just like Coker was a ****** because, among other things, he was TOO nice and incapable of laying down the law, and thus got no real respect for the players. Hopefully Coach D is capable of doing that and I see no reason why he wouldn't be nor do I think he'd be along for the ride with Golden.

I hope you're not confusing "treating individuals differently" with "different rules for different people".

Just the perception that the rules are different for different people is an absolute morale killer in any team or organization. Your approach to how you interact with individuals is however, unique to each individual. A coach with interpersonal skills and awareness gets that. But, application of the rules better be "one size fits all", or you are asking for dissention.

Edit: I see that you were not saying that. Apologies.

Maybe Coach D is an uptight prick cause he knows the D sucks right now.

Right, what I am saying is that you coaches have to know how to manage personalities. You can be an ******* all you want, and that's fine because players don't even have to like playing for you. But you also cannot be such an ******* that your players start tuning you out. Some guys respond to that, some don't. I don't think coach D is like that and I'm just commenting on the OP's point in general. I understand there are some complaints from some good players on this team but I think a lot of it is just message board fodder because we have nothing else to talk about lol. I'm just saying in general.

Nobody likes a mean coach when they losing.

Everybody loves an in-your-face style coach when they are winning.

the fact that Bomb calls the guy "coach D" is allllll i need to know......

you cant run around screamin, yelling, callin people stupid, idiots....when opposing oc's make a fool out of you on a week to week basis......

granted talent was low...BUT NOTHING of his defensive scheme really enticed me or made me "BELIEVE"....were just going to have to do it BRINGING IN STUDS.....

and again...again...The man he learned under and shared/shares alot of philosophy with Al Groh routinely gets fired in the ACC for having garbage defenses.

LOL, that's "all you need to know?" I call him coach D because I seem to **** up spelling his last name for some reason all the time. What an intelligent conclusion you've reached. Remind me to never go to Vegas, invest, consult or otherwise ask you for an opinion on anything ever.:-)

And again the man "he learned under and shared/shares alot of philosophy with Al Groh" is ******* Al Golden. And we're **** lucky to have him.

Coach No'D has never coached a smart game at The U. He is a bad coach, and his situational awareness and play calling are testament to this fact. We need better. I'm not usually one to go along with disrespecting coaches, but in this case, it's OBVIOUS the man has lost whatever it is that made him a good coach at Temple.

like experienced players and depth? you can't win the race when you don't have any horses.

what about trying to get everyone playing time? al had a hand in this decision, and some of the kids maybe didnt like that approach...this may be true in 2013 as we add a full defensive team into the mix with redshirts and recruits....how do you manage this? i am in the camp that thinks we close very strong on defense with our guys, no name or thomas

Who cares? Results are what matters. If he can't get results because they don't like him, then yeah, like it or not, he has a problem. We were terrible on defense. Whether you like him or not, you can't be happy with that.

Being happy is relative to your expectations.
If you were expecting a top 30 defense, however unreasonable that is, with this mix of talent, youth and depth, then obviously you would be disappointed.
However looking at the results individually and looking at the big picture long term, and D'onofrio's pattern of success previously at Temple, it's hard not to see that good things are coming as soon as next year. Now if he fails at meeting expectations of major improvements next year he'd be more than fair game.

The biggest reason kids don't like coach D is because he is very disrespectful...lack people skills. Sometimes you have to give respect to get respect.

That's funny because the kids that played Defense at Temple loved coach D. But then again most of those kids were no stars and 2stars that hadn't been told how good they were their whole lives.

THIS SPEAKS VOLUMES AS TO THE CHANGE IN THE ATTITUDE AND FOCUS FROM THESE KIDS......IF YOU PAMPER AND POWDER THEIR *** FROM BIRTH....DO YOU REALLY EXPECT THEM TO RESPOND ANY OTHER WAY WHEN IT'S TIME TO PERFORM?
