A&M game discussion

Nah. Ball will be out of his hands. Only time the pass rush will matter is on our Deep shots. Otherwise. No reason for tackles to struggle but Sooo much in this offense.

To me, it'll be on TvD or receivers not getting open than it will be the Oline

I'm not sure how long it's going to take to click, but I expect the passing game to be MILES better than it was last year. Houston was legitimately prolific in just about every single passing number last season, and I don't think Tune is a better pure thrower than TVD is. We don't have Tank Dell here, I'll for sure admit that. But Houston was:

5th in the entire country in passing yards
10th in passer rating
8th in completion percentage
20th in yards per attempt
3rd in passing TDs (FORTY touchdowns)

You don't just accidentally have a season like that. Or do it with inept coaching. I hope this all gels quickly, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a massive jump up in the passing game this season.

I’m not as worried about the Score against Miami Ohio as I am about several things I wanna see that we struggle to do against weaker competition (and all of last year)

- Explosive plays
- How our OL looks
- DLs ability to create havoc/stop the run
- who will lead our WRs?
- how do we utilize our 4 Backs (good problem t have)
- how do we utilize Skinner/Arroyo/McCormick and maybe even Williams (another good problem to have)
- How do our LBs (our starting lineup is way different than last year)

I expect some rust to be worked out but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s similar to the UAB game back in 2020 where we won in the 31-10 Range.
Yeah, final scores can be deceiving. I don't want a 10-7 game at the half like we had against USM last year. Sure if you look at the box score, you see 30-7 and 450-237 total yards and it looks like a beat down but that game was really ugly, especially offensively. Miami ran 80 plays to get that 450 yards including 49 runs while only averaging 3.6 yards per carry. It carried over the next game against A&M when they ran 77 plays for only 392 yards. The complete lack of explosive plays on offense was a huge red flag against Southern Miss. The problem with ball control coaches is that they only care about converting third downs and staying on the field, even at the expense of actually scoring points. Miami had 27 first downs and dominated time of possession against the Aggies and scored 9 friggin points.

Question for some of you guys in the area. Where's the best place to stay hotel wise in the area? I'm trying to convince the wife that we should make the trip down so want to figure out the hotel I have to pitch her on lol

It really depends on what else you plan on doing while in town. You can stay on the beach in Hollywood/Hallandale or Aventura and that's anywhere from a 10-30 minute drive to Hardrock Stadium. If you're a gambler, there's the Seminole Hardrock Hotel/Casino in Hollywood. There's plenty of places further south if you want to see Miami proper but most of the nicer areas are a decent hike from the stadium. There's limited options right by the stadium and I wouldn't recommend them anyway.

Good stuff

Final score can be deceiving. I mean did we look explosive and dominant and just need to clean stuff up? Or are we struggling to move the ball all game like the So Miss game? Is it rust/1st game **** or is it foundational concerns? Is it just trying to find chemistry or is it trying to fit Square pegs in round holes?

Parrish pretty much carried the team that game we can’t be having that ****.

I think people need to temper their expectations and not get too invested in what it means if we don't beat AtM.

For as much as they have been mediocre, watching their recruiting should inform that they are a potential juggernaut if things come together and the talent is unlocked.

Like us, there are some significant unknowns coming into this season, and it should not really surprise anyone if their experienced new play caller makes a difference, their 5 star QB is actually good, and their top 10 roster talent beats most teams on their schedule.

That isn't to say that we can't win the game, but I expect them to be betting favorites going in.

Miami Gardens Inn and Suites 16805 NW 12th Ave, Miami, FL 33169. You will thank me later!

This is a 3:30 start so the heat won’t affect this game neither even though it’ll be hot. The Heat argument has been proven false many times.

A&M has an impressive roster. Their Defense will be really good. Hopefully, our Defense can keep us in the game and close it out in the 4th, unlike last year.
I agree with this, by that time majority of the game the playing field will be in shade and after halftime the visitor sideline probably will be also.. They wont melt like Buffalo last year (that game was torture for them but a 1pm start, I also notice NFL have fins playing home games barely in sept. this season)

Dawson called plays as the OC in Houston from 2020-2022. He is a Dana disciple but the rumors that Dana took over play calling duties last year were essentially shut down by some Cougar fans who came over here to give us some intel. The fact that Houston's offense was better in the second half of the season last year probably has more to do with the fact that their schedule got significantly easier in the second half of the year.

I've done Miami a few times for Ultra before and we would spend a couple days on Collins and then usually somewhere close to Bayfront. I think we did Intercontinental one year and then Mint House the next. Maybe we'll check out closer to Hollywood this time around. Probably would just be a Friday to Sunday thing so as long as there was somewhere to take the wife to dinner around, it should be fine.

Yes. We badly need more explosive plays and that's where a deep threat like Harrell could be a game changer. And if the o line is good enough to spring these rb's for big gains vs only getting small chunks that can change everything for us on O.

Not going to try to make any predictions but I don't expect either team to look the same this year.

This game will probably set the bar for how this team and season play out or at least give us a very good idea of it.
One thousand percent both teams PROJECT to be very different this year. It's key to remember that. Cause if we're thinking we'll be going up against that same team or even close to it, I would tell you that you're setting yourself up for palpitations already.

When it relates to this game as a bar for the season, other than Clemson and potentially fspoo I strongly doubt we'll see a team at this level again. I could obviously be wrong and they'll still have QB issues. But from my own history with petrino the guy is **** near elite with his development of qbs(hopefully not this quickly)& his offenses have a history of giving us all types of fits. Honestly I'm more hyped for this game than any for the rest of the season. I think poo will be okay but they definitely aren't some world beaters. I've been said I like Travis. That kid has tons of heart. The key in beating them is all about getting physical at the line with their receivers and slowing down the run. Clemson should be Clemson. Klubnick or whatever his name is still semi untested & therefore he's beatable. We just gotta stretch the field on them.

I definitely expect it to be a lot more of an exciting game than what we saw last year. I suspect Jumbo won't be able to help himself and may have his hands on the offense as well slowing down Petrino. But we'll see. I have cautious optimism for our team this year.

Hard Rock is the closest, there's not much by the stadium its mostly residential there. I like staying in Fort Lauderdale rather than Miami, anything on the beach is good.

This game starts and ends with whether or not 8-4s coordinators show up. Jimbo has held them back on offense but if Petrino shows out they not only beat us but most on their schedule. Their roster is top 5.
