A couple of thoughts

Snark in the place of substance.

So on-brand.

The concerns expressed in this thread are about the offense. Defense is fine.

I think these stats are substantive:

UM Offense national ranking:

PPG: 36th
Rushing YPG: 69th
Passing YPG: 40th

For a team built to run the ball it's not going very well.
Passing game isn't going to win us games.

This isn't an ACC or Playoff winning offense.

UM Defense national ranking:

PPG: 11th
Rushing YPG: 9th
Passing YPG: 26th

Pass defense isn't elite, but we can win the ACC and compete in the Playoffs with this defense

We have the most football smart WR prospect CFB has seen in years.

Every tight bunch formation should be a threat to go Art Briles wide and every wide formation should have the threat of Toney eating your LBs lunch.

Show both, use both.
Love those WRs that have played QB. His understanding of the levels of the defense is so advanced.

While we were sputtering he bailed us out repeatedly last night.

I’ve run out of adjectives for him.

Yikes at those offensive numbers.

Our offense moved the ball all night, regardless of field position.

But here I am thinking that the defense getting the ball back for the offense is a GOOD thing.
We gained 42 yards on our first two plays in the first half then gained a whopping 124 more yards on 38 snaps in the first half and scored 7 points against that team. I wouldn’t say that’s moving the ball.

Second half we had drives of

Plays-Yards-outcome

6-40 TD (Toney 31 yd return)
4-9 turnover on downs @ Stan 21 (Toney 41 yd return)
1-3 TD (following Wes’s pick and return)
4-45 TD (following Lucas pick)
8-76 TD
12-55 TD

Played better in the second half and obviously took advantage (thankfully) of 2 picks and converted one of the returns into points. By the last 2 drives the game was over. I’d feel much better if the second half was the first half. We were in a dogfight with a team that would lose to USF. If we come out like that against SMU we’ll be in another all game nail biter that we never seem to do well with.

“Problem is the second half. We had success doing what we did in the first half. We just tried harder”

Are you kidding me? The problem was the first half lack of execution. If we convert a 4th down and don’t miss a FG, we lead 17-7 at the half. The “we just tried harder” part has Message Board Geniuses written all over it.

Fair commentary:

First half was uninspired on offense (again) with a lack of execution. Halftime adjustments were made. Second half was much better.

Everything else written is a hyperbolic attempt to prove you’re right.

I dont think it's about effort. But really physical erosion on a team that isn't good to begin with and then gets worn out. Which is what usually happens, the bigger, deeper team leans out and bludgeons the other one late in games

Which is how it should be. Nobody is saying dont run the ball or be physical, but how you do it does matter

There’s no narrative. Mario wants to control the trenches in particular between the tackles. We ran between the tackles last year as well. If we brought in Andy Reid we would still want to control the game between the tackles.

It’s not a bad thing. When it’s clicking it’s pretty **** impressive actually.
The narrative is that Mario would only hire neanderthal OCs and then force them to do what he wants.

Then you were dishonest when you mentioned Gattis without mentioning that he was almost immediately fired and replaced with said air raid coach who opened up the offense.

Oh I got you now. Well played. There’s a lot of people here better at this than you are.

This is so silly.

The team that won the ACC Championship last year averaged 34.7 ppg. We're averaging.......34.0 ppg.

And don't make me remind you that we were #1 in everything last year and *didn't* win it.

That kind of analysis you just did is less than meaningless.

You wouldn't say that because you're pushing a narrative.

We had 4 possessions in the 1st half. We were in scoring position on 3 of them. TD, missed FG and stopped on downs at the 30.

The special teams cost us 3 points and the offense didn't execute on the other. It's a fine line between 7-7 at halftime and 17-7.

You said we moved the ball all night. Your definition of that and mine are apparently very different. This was against Stanford. Gaining 124 yards on 38 plays isn’t moving the ball.

We did.

And, yes, I agree that your definition is different than mine. That's because, like I already said, you have a narrative to uphold.

We won 42-7.
Post makes me feel like we lost 42-7.

The analysis contains the reason why we lost to Louisville and scored fewer points than BC did against them yesterday. Our offense isn't very good. That's what the stats say.

We were #1 on offense last year and didn't win it because the defense was mediocre or worse

Now the defense is better but the offense is mediocre, which similarly puts the team at risk for not winning it this year either.

The offense is a concern if winning the ACC is the goal. If you don't think so I don't know what to say.

Scoring fewer points that BC against them is the kind of irrelevance I'd expect.

Our offense not being very good in your opinion is not the same as saying that it's not good enough to win the ACC when it quite clearly is.

There are people better at reading exactly what you posted and then repeating it accurately?

No chance!
There’s a really lovely irony here that I’m appreciating

No matter how many times you get your account restricted you keep trying

That’s some real Dawson on short yardage energy and now I’m finally getting the joke

I understand that when you're being pummeled by the truth and you have no comeback this is what you have to resort to.
