2021 Recruiting

Up until now, I would have said that Miami and Virginia Tech were the two to beat. Now that Camden has settled on a more prolonged timeline towards a commitment, it seems that it is anyone’s ball game for the versatile forward that can play many spots on both sides of the floor, possesses a high feel for the game and can make shots from each level.

Coach Fisher got in early with John Camden and now Miami has to fight off other schools for him.

He holds offers from many schools but says the main ones prioritizing him are: Michigan, Louisville, LSU, UConn,Colorado, NC State, Miami, Georgetown, and Nebraska.

I’ve taken virtual visits with Miami, Colorado, UConn, Georgetown, LSU, Louisville, Michigan.” He also says that he will complete one with Nebraska next week.

As far as next steps, Allen says that he will cut his list down to five programs in July or August and then aims for a winter decision date.

It is good to see the coaches putting in a lot of work with him. He is a better player than his ranking.

Fudge also has continued to land new interest as schools are now getting involved at a weekly pace. Amongst those new interests include Miami, Stanford, Florida State, Dayton, and Notre Dame.

As far as a timetable, he said he will cut his list down in the next 2-3 months.

One of the two hottest names in the state of Florida in the 2021 class. It is good to see the Canes are involved

He holds offers from Florida, Miami, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Xavier, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Georgia and TCU. In addition, he recently had a full-staff zoom call with the staff of Pittsburgh, where Jeff Capel would eventually offer the dynamic big man a scholarship.

I don't know where he is on the priority list but he is on the recruiting board for Miami.

Roosevelt Wheeler is not someone that I see going far away from home for college. Kansas is in the mix for Wheeler, one of the best true centers in the 2021 class, but NC State holds my FutureCast for him. Don’t count out Louisville, Georgetown, Miami or VCU, either.

STEVIE MITCHELL IS A RARE BREED IN THE 2021 CLASS

Stevie Mitchell is the best prospect to come from the Reading, Pa., area since Lonnie Walker. To say that Mitchell is underrated is not quite fair to those recruiting him. However, I do have a fairly good feeling that if he could compete on the travel circuit this spring his offer list would be more expansive.

A 6-foot-2 lead guard that just completed his junior year at Wilson High School in eastern Pennsylvania, Mitchell was expected to break out last month. There is already a limited number of high-major lead guards in the 2021 class, and Mitchell was supposed to be one of the few that could have used such small numbers to his advantage in improving his stock nationally.

Boasting an electric first step, tremendous playmaking abilities off the bounce, explosiveness at the basket (where he is good for a posterizing a defender every now and again), and a calm demeanor in the backcourt, Mitchell brings plenty of value to the court. He has been unable to take any college visits, and due to the pandemic he might wait until the spring to sign, which is a good omen for those that may need a lead guard for next year

Georgia Tech, Marquette, Miami, St. Joseph's, Stanford and Temple are the six that Mitchell feels have prioritized him the most in recent months. Still relatively wide open with his recruitment, I’d expect more high-major programs to enter the picture and his Rivals150 ranking to improve in the weeks ahead, regardless of whether or not a travel season begins.

His offers include Marquette, Georgia Tech, Temple, Miami, Penn State, La Salle, UPenn, Stanford, Virginia Tech, amongst several others.

Out of the many listed and involved, Mitchell says ‘The most involved are Stanford, Temple, Marquette, Miami, Georgia Tech, Saint Joes, and Iona’ with others in contact as well.

Mitchell was limited on time as far as seeing college campuses and taking visits. Now, like everyone else, Mitchell is being heavily pursued through zoom calls. He has done zoom calls with Stanford, Temple, Miami, Marquette, Saint Joes, and Iona. Many of the programs listed have completed multiple calls and will continue to vie fora physical visit when COVID-19 clears up.

He is the only true point guard Miami is recruiting. Bensley Joseph is listed as a point guard but he is more of a scorer first. Wesley Cardet is the big combo/lead guard that will remind some of Durand Scott.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Don't panic. Miami still has a lot of good options available in Quincy Allen, Alex Fudge, Jon Camden and Rafael Castro.
Also remember, Miami beat Syracuse last season.

“As of late you’re looking at Iona, Villanova obviously, Temple has been one of the biggest suitors, Miami, Georgia Tech has really picked up, Marquette has been constant throughout, Saint Joe’s and Stanford,” Williams said.

While Villanova has been recruiting him since the middle of the high school season, Jay Wright ramped things up over the last month.

The coaching staff may need to go all in on Wesley Cardet as pg is not the strongest position in the 2021 class.

It is great to see that they offered him but it is interesting that Miami is not more involved with Josh Minnot. Especially since he plays in Boca Raton.

Miami: “Their play style allows guards to really display their full abilities and they do a great job developing their guards.”

Miami made his final list so that is a positive. Beating Villanova for him seems like a long shot but a visit to campus may change that.
