1st and 2nd string running back?

Homer is the most talented and physically gifted RB on this roster from a measurable standpoint. However, I don't think anyone here is throwing out Dalvin Cook comparisons from a running standpoint.

I think we can all agree there isn't an elite back on this roster that can do it all. There is no McGahee, Portis, Gore, ect. Homer is the closest thing to those other running backs we have on this roster but he has a lot to prove.
Why is everyone so sure Homer isn't an elite back? He's got elite athleticism especially for a big kid. Before **** went off at FSU there were plenty of questions about his game. Many were claiming he was basically a straight line speed guy with no vision.

Just re-watched Travis Homer's high school film and he's got some serious skills. If you want a Georgia comparison (via Mark Richt) he reminds me of a slimmer Knowshon Moreno in the way he runs.

Peolpe hate on Yearby because he has an running ugly style, and that's it. Namely, he runs pigeon toe'd and his steps are short and choppy. However, his haters fail to look at his elite cutback ability, pass catching ablity, he's plenty strong for his size and he doesn't fumble. Also, look at the results ---1000 yards last year!!

The guy churned out nice yards behind a young offensive line last year, and with an inept offensive coordinator dialing up slow developing plays from the shotgun

Yearby's cut game is better than JuanFromLittleHavana's. He's elite with his cuts. He could be a 1200 yard rusher every year of his life. He's not a home run hitter though, and that's all the highlight generation understands.

Cook still just runs straight ahead. He doesn't have much wiggle at all.

excited about Homer, could be a good candidate for KOR as well. I think he is the fastest back, and will start no matter who is here next year. This year I see him getting more and more involved as the season goes on. He is a beast! KOR and a few explosive runs here and there as a true Frosh..

He could be elite in time, I just don't think he is there yet. I think he is one of those guys that will need about a year or so to grow into his body before becoming elite. I think he ends up in the in 215 pound range while keeping his speed and explosion.

From his limited tape I saw, one of the questions I had was does he have the lateral quickness and shiftiness to make a LB miss in the hole. I didn't see a lot of that on tape. Moreover, I really didn't see ability to catch balls out of the back field or block for me to say he is elite.

As far as Cook is concerned I really didn't see him as a straight line guy, people on CIS probably did. Coming out of High school there was a reason why recruiting scouts had Cook ranked in the top 50 while Homer was in the 150-300 range. Homer has the raw ability to become elite but he is going to need time. I think Cook was more of a finished product heading into college than Homer is.

I'm not going to crown homer and say he is elite or not because we simply have not seen him play yet. But he does have great measurables and apparently he is doing great in camp

Listen to this man. That's the approach anyone with a scintilla of common sense would take.

Homer is 100% going to play this year.

He has elite size and speed and was extremely productive.

I hate to do it but....

Dalvin Cook ESPN verified Testing (2014)
5'11" 196
4.46 40 yard dash
4.18 20 yard shuttle
30.9 Vert
38 Power Throw
110 SPARQ Score

Travis Homer ESPN verified Testing (2016)
5'11" 195
4.48 40 yard dash
4.03 20 yard shuttle
37.8 Vert
40.0 Power
126.51 SPARQ Score

Easily the most underrated player in our class last year and possibly in the country.

That 20 yd shuttle time of 4.03 would have been good for 9th among RB's at last years combine.

How does the power throw translate in regard to being an elite back?

Most of the all-time greats were power-throw champions in grammar school.

So he's better or equivalent to Dalvin Cook?

The standing vertical leap is a good index for measuring explosiveness. His 40 time suggests he has really good top end speed or break away speed also. Homer's VJ puts him among the most athletic backs in the country. There are some 38s, 40s, and a kid who jumped 44", but 37.5 is outstanding. I'm not crowning him as a running back, the proof is revealed when the lights come on for real, but there is no need to act like his measurables taken collectively aren't excellent because they are. I still believe Brown made the statement he did because he believes we do have a couple of elite backs, and I think he believes Travis is one of them. Only time will really tell.

If Travis Homer played at St Thomas last year instead of Oxbridge he would have been the #1 RB in the country.

Physically yes.

Production, toughness, etc. are to be determined.

My take is it isn't motivational or reflective of the actual depth chart.

They probably want to see what each of the 4 RB's look like running with the 1st and 2nd teams since there's not a lot of separation between the 4.

The first 3 games are basically a glorified scrimmages, so I'd expect each back to get 8-10 carries a game, and the coaches will use these games to shake out the depth chart and decide if they want to Redshirt Homer or not. GT game will show the real depth chart.

I'd predict:

- Homer will redshirt
- Walton will be the starter for the 1st game
- Gus will get the majority of carries once we get into ACC games, and will lead the team in rushing by the end of the year
- We'll basically have a 3 way RBC the whole year. Each will get 100+ carries
- This board's opinion on who our best RB is will rotate weekly

1 for 1

I see no reason for homer to get any burn at rb this year as the fourth guy. Probably will redshirt
