1st and 2nd string running back?

My take is it isn't motivational or reflective of the actual depth chart.

They probably want to see what each of the 4 RB's look like running with the 1st and 2nd teams since there's not a lot of separation between the 4.

The first 3 games are basically a glorified scrimmages, so I'd expect each back to get 8-10 carries a game, and the coaches will use these games to shake out the depth chart and decide if they want to Redshirt Homer or not. GT game will show the real depth chart.

I'd predict:

- Homer will redshirt
- Walton will be the starter for the 1st game
- Gus will get the majority of carries once we get into ACC games, and will lead the team in rushing by the end of the year
- We'll basically have a 3 way RBC the whole year. Each will get 100+ carries
- This board's opinion on who our best RB is will rotate weekly

Mark was talking about redshirt RBs the other day. Seemed to me he is NOT in favor of it. He did it once and kid left to NFL after 3 anyway. Why lose the year.

Let's hope Homer blows up and is the top guy at some point this season. That would mean he's special and we haven't had one of those since Miller.

No way Homer redshirts now with Gray done for the year. If he has the talent to be on the field year one then so be it.

Gray is done for the year?

I'm all for Homer not Redshirting if he's good enough. I really hope he is. But I think if he were, he would've leaped the Yearby/Walton/Gus committee almost immediately. Those guys aren't world beaters, so it wouldn't have taken 3 weeks.

My thought is if Homer is probably on the same level as Yearby/Walton/Gus - in which case he would RS.

Our 3rd RB rarely gets a significant amount of carries, and our 4th RB never does. If we play 4 RB's - 1 guy will be assed out. Just not enough carries to split 4 ways. And it's not like any of the other RB's are going to RS, so Homer makes sense.

Why do you want to save a 5th year that he won't use? If he's still here in 5 years it means he either sucks or has been devastated by injuries and will be passed by 4 younger guys.

Play RBs and WRs right away. Get your money's worth out of them. They ain't on sleep away camp.

Even if you put a guy like Homer in at KR he can help you.

The fact that we are discussing this topic about Homer at this point in his career is a great sign. If it is true, why not move Edwards to Fullback?

Homer is 100% going to play this year.

He has elite size and speed and was extremely productive.

I hate to do it but....

Easily the most underrated player in our class last year and possibly in the country.

Walton as 3rd string? Sorry, don't buy it. Maybe it's a motivation tactic from Richt and/or Thomas Brown?

Why is it so hard to believe that Homer leapfrogged Mark "3.5 YPC and a cloud of dust" Walton??

Walton is out least talented RB by a wide margin, in my opinion. No vision, and no top end speed

My thoughts exactly ! Look at his "highlight" reel from last year. No speed in the open field and the 3.5 YPC brings into question his vision.

Big games are won with big plays .Walton thus far has shown he cant hit the homerun.

Link?

If he is that good he will start be the middle to end of the season.

Pretty sure Yearby is the starter. He was one of the best players on the field last season and rushed for 1000 yards.

Because he's not physical enough as a runner no way he would cut it blocking.

I doubt Homer will redshirt but he'll end up being our 3rd string back in front of Gus

Yearby, Walton, and Gus are all good backs but not GREAT backs like we have had in the past! Those Homer stats are the real deal if in fact are true. Could be the surprise of the class. Hoping it is...

I did not mean to up vote. He has hit some homeruns maybe three or four called back on penalties, but I SEE your point.

I think homer put Gus on the bench barring injury and or garbage time
I am surprised that he jumped Walton tho maybe he's suspended?
