I think so. Manny seems to be on the Taggart track. After the bowl.

But even the NFL kids didn't play like that here. That is why I focus on development and scheme. For example, we had five OL start games in the NFL this year. That's a huge number. But not a single one of those guys made All-ACC. If the NFL talents are underperforming, I suspect that is true...

Here is a stat that will surprise some people

The results are in on Enos and Barry and they tell the same old story. Donaldson is the latest example. High School All-American. Freshman All-American. Now, unplayable. Another talent wasted. Duke's OL provides a good comparison. They struggled, predictably, with two freshmen tackles. But...

I'm not ignoring your points. I'm just searching, in vain, for anything that is not mere opinion. I posted hard stats on NFL talent. You dismissed that as a "slogan to provide a narrative." Then I gave you recruiting rankings. You dismissed that as "random data points." So what objective...

Here is a stat that will surprise some people

Read the original post in this thread. It is about NFL offensive linemen, i.e. successful evaluations. The stars are an alternative measure that says the same thing. We have more OL talent than most of the teams we play. Fans lack context when it comes to offensive lines. That's why I keep...

Here is a stat that will surprise some people

For sure, but it is just another semi-objective measure of talent. The topic of the thread was NFL talent, which we’ve produced a lot of on the OL.

Since you brought up Florida, I think this should provide some context on our OL talent. Here is Florida's projected OL for Orlando in terms of Composite ratings: Jean DeLance- 94.57 (Texas transfer) Brett Heggie- 86.56 Stone Forsythe- 84.37 Nick Buchanon- 82.74 Chris Bleich- Unranked Their...

Here is a stat that will surprise some people

It is very simple. We have no experience and are going against an experienced, high-level front. I think this OL has several NFL players and a bright future. But a line with two freshmen tackles, a sophomore guard and a sophomore center will have growing pains. The transition class in 2016...

Hopefully we add another OL to the NFL:

Here is a stat that will surprise some people

Is there a reason you are bumping this statistical fact? If so, please explain. As for this year’s OL, I’m not worried about the talent. We’ve recruited pretty well there the last three years. The concern is experience: one junior, two sophomores and two freshmen.

We go from tied for 1st to tied for 3rd. Still in the top group.

Nobody said we had Bama talent. That’s a straw man. I’m just posting facts. To the extent I’m “suggesting” anything, it’s what the numbers make plain: we are wasting colossal amounts of talent. Including on the OL.

Here is a stat that will surprise some people

In 2013, we had four NFL players and a first-team All-ACC center. Did that unit dominate? Did they even come close? It’s coaching, scheme (which you mentioned), strength and conditioning.

Would not surprise me. Their strength and conditioning in general is a huge advantage. They also have an elite medical staff. It is an NFL quality operation.

What grade? The NFC East? Or the ACC Coastal?

Here is a stat that will surprise some people

This is where you show your lack of perspective. Every program has some useless offensive linemen on its roster. Bruce Feldman wrote an entire article about it. A college personnel guy told him that every team has at least five OL busts on scholarship because of the nature of the position. Our...

Here is a stat that will surprise some people

Threads like this are about perspective. Fans often lack perspective when it comes to their own OL. It’s easy to see a weak-link tackle who gives up a sack. But we aren’t watching every game from every team. They have issues, too. Your references to Mahoney and the lack of depth only...

Here is a stat that will surprise some people

Linder is the highest paid center in NFL history. Bryant McKinnie and Chris Myers made Pro Bowls. By comparison, Alabama has only produced one Pro Bowl OL since 2002 (Evan Mathis). We aren’t OL U. That’s Wisconsin or Iowa. But our front-line talent is miles ahead of what people think.

Here is a stat that will surprise some people

Our most dominant line ever (2001) didn't do much in the pros. Sherko was a CFL guy. Bibla lasted three years, Gonzalez lasted four years, Romberg lasted five years. The only consistent starter was McKinnie. They overachieved in college. By comparison, look at our 2013 line. Brandon Linder is...
