1. Mario needs to fire the OL Coach.

2. Mario needs a 100% hands off approach. Head Coach, Recruiting, Spokesperson, NIL, Portal, and having position coach on give a recap of the Game Plan for the week 0% input.

3. Hire a OC who doesn't believe in taking his foot off the gas. Who has a dominate inside and outside run game strategy. Innovative in the pass game. Rotate players to keep our players fresh and injury free.

4. Tell Heathermen he wants more press coverage. We press every play. We rotate our guys keep them fresh and injury free. Best player plays.

5. We have enough talent on Offense to win the ACC btw. Even our "disappointments" can be stars in the ACC.

How do you have a coach who is supposedly a huge hard *** disciplinarian and you’re last in the nation in penalties. I just found out from this article that there’s 134 teams.

If we kick the penalties we’d have beat smu. Probably not loserville cause Beck was becking that day

It won't be Kiffin.

That boat has sailed.

Has anyone else noted that Arkansas and Oklahoma seems to draw some really good, innovative coaches? Even Arkansas State has had some younger, innovative coaches. I think Jimmy Johnson played for Arkansas and was at Oklahoma State.

Just saying . . . instead of running older names through the tick trough, and a recycle - there's some really good younger coaches who'd give their left nut to coach at UM.

It's not like they'd ***** up here and there - something we've never seen - but they might be hungry to put in the work and not put their entire career in running into super stacked boxes at the A Gap.

And for Heaven's sake - no more former players.
I think now more than ever, teams will benefit from having an X’s and O’s Head coach rather than a “recruiter”. Recruiting in NIL era has been largely neutralized by money. Teams who pay the most get the most talent.

Pair talent ($$$) with good innovative coaching and you have something

Cis makes being a canes fan possible. Without it, we would be crying vs laughing. Some of these posts are gold of late.

The Offensive issues start & end with SEC Becky.

The run game is struggling (Drunk Joe Namath voice), because teams are packing the box against us. We're running into 7-8+ man fronts, especially on short yardage plays. Why? Because they don't respect the QB, therefore, they can just sit back in 2-high playing Cover 3 & watch his eyes all game.

They know he's going 2 places with the ball. To Toney & CJ Daniels, and there's only 4 routes between the 2 of them that he throws;
For Toney - Drag route, Curl route
For CJ - Button Hook, Deep In

If you watch just 2 games worth of film on Becky, you can perfectly sequence when & where he’s going with the ball.

HENCE WHY HE KEEPS THROWING PICKS ON IN-BREAKING ROUTES... But alas.

The reason why he's uncomfortable when he has time to throw, is because he's not an advanced progression reader. He's a one read & throw QB. DC's since LAST YEAR, have figured out, that all you have to do is confuse Becky with coverage. It's not pressure, or disguised looks, just sit back & watch him & he will take you to the ball.

The major difference in the Offense from last year to this year, is that Defenses were scared to Death of Cam & his improvisational ability. The coverages we saw on a weekly basis were of a result of DC's biting their finger nails off in anticipation for how to stop Cam. They'd play Man, they'd play Zone, they'd give us Cover 2, 3, 5, 6, 0, they'd go presnap Blitz & drop 7, they'd go presnap Zone & come with delayed Blitzes, they tried everything & none of it worked, until FSU when our Patron Saint decided he needed a pound of flesh.

But the point is, the Offensive struggles this season are because DC's don't respect our passing attack & they see on film that they don't need to because our QB is going to give them the ball when they need it & our RB's are going to run directly to them.

A better QB = a better Offense
A better Offense = Winning games we should win

Unfortunately, the HC is a firm believer in the idea of being able to win games in spite of your QB & not because of your QB. Which is why he always loses close games against lesser opponents, because he still hasn't figured out the formula.
what should/can Dawson do to help him?

I feel for Beck, a bit.

Our offense is stifled. Limited. Lethargic. Beck doesn't call the plays.

And we're too tight. Way too tight, way too controlled, way to predictable, and way too limited.

One thing I recall - and there's a lesson here - even though it's from a long while back:

Bear Bryant recounted that they were getting their butts kicked, and everyone, especially him - were all puked out and resigned to the loss. Now Bear realized that at that game - and during those days - he was very demanding.

At halftime, behind two or three touchdowns - he said he couldn't come up with any solutions or adjustments.

So he told them, and I'm paraphrasing: "We're getting our butts waxed - so rather than wallow in misery - as we're going to lose this one - I want everyone to just go out there and have fun."

They loosened up, had fun, and actually won the game.

HE admitted HE was the one that learned a hard lesson - loose is fast and fun, and loose lets players just play - without fear of s crewing up and catching hail(sp) Monday.

Im confused at these things because this makes it seem like mario is a passive fan like us and not responsible for product.

1. MARIO IS DAM NEAR THE OLINE COACH! Everything the Oline coach does and teaches is what Mario does and teach! He would be firing himself?! Its his unit, he it there in practice, he is there pregame.

3. Mario is the one who dictates taking foot off gas! Lol. You think changing the OC will change that?? You think if Mario wanted something different with offense he couldnt demand it RIGHT NOW??

Not sure about the best way for Mario to present it, but this team is tight as ****. They look deflated, no life or enthusiasm. Likely beaten down & fun is gone.

ACCCG is out at this point. Only path to the playoffs is to run up every score and change narrative/look going into the final weekend. We need to test the depth of every team left on the schedule.

If Beck craters while trying to run it up, nothing lost its Pop Tart vs Cheese-It.

Mario does let it rip, we should blow out 3 of the next 4 and win 4 of 4. It also likely gets some fans back on board that left.
Mario neeeds to get out of the way

Hey Danny, nice, balanced post. I'm with you in general but a few nits...

1) Brock has been an issue but Carpenter was no great shakes either and he didn't seem to be the liability that Brock is. My theory is twofold - one, we are more predictable on offense which makes certain defensive looks more problematic for our OL (crashing defenders, stacked boxes, etc). If Carpenter were in the lineup this year, I think you'd find similar issues. Second, I don't know that LG is that problematic. McCoy was one year younger last year and he was fine. I think many of his issues stem from the kind of defensive fronts we're facing on predictable plays. Can they both be better? Sure. Are they the reason for the bad running game? Nah.

2) as "self aware" as folks inside the building say they are, there's one person who isn't - Mario. He talks a lot about self scouting but his mantra to his team in general is "have to execute better".

3) Lastly, you know, I know, we all know that "let it rip" is coachspeak for "we'll sprinkle a few new plays here and there". At the end of the day, Mario ain't a "let it rip" coach. His 10+ years as HC tell us as much.
we are so mind numbingly slow & boring on offense nothing looks good period
