What I'm seeing and hearing...

The young TEs looked the part against Bethune (yes I know competition level) but they made plays and at this point play the young guys I’d rather see them missing blocks learning tanking lumps than seeing lofton, bauman, and SJ which looks like a bad Center take ******* up weekly over and over

We’ve got to spread the field… stop letting extra defenders hang around the box… we don’t have 5 first rounders to alleviate the numbers

So Mario will go into year 5 on his 3rd oc and 3rd dc.Is this a record,is it common place.
Idk you really think Dawson leaves after the year? I’m leaning on him staying

Which brings me to their next observation- even accounting for stacked boxes, our run blocking has taken a huge step back. My NFL sources pointed to C and LG as major problem areas, and Anez Cooper has been disappointing as well.

I was encouraged talking to folks inside the building because they seemed self-aware.

Now we're going to find out about the culture. My prediction before the season was 10-2. Right now, I'd bet against that. November losses come in bunches and our trajectory has been downhill for a month. The message internally, is "Let it rip." We'll see if that plays out on the field. Go Canes.

Hey Danny, nice, balanced post. I'm with you in general but a few nits...

1) Brock has been an issue but Carpenter was no great shakes either and he didn't seem to be the liability that Brock is. My theory is twofold - one, we are more predictable on offense which makes certain defensive looks more problematic for our OL (crashing defenders, stacked boxes, etc). If Carpenter were in the lineup this year, I think you'd find similar issues. Second, I don't know that LG is that problematic. McCoy was one year younger last year and he was fine. I think many of his issues stem from the kind of defensive fronts we're facing on predictable plays. Can they both be better? Sure. Are they the reason for the bad running game? Nah.

2) as "self aware" as folks inside the building say they are, there's one person who isn't - Mario. He talks a lot about self scouting but his mantra to his team in general is "have to execute better".

3) Lastly, you know, I know, we all know that "let it rip" is coachspeak for "we'll sprinkle a few new plays here and there". At the end of the day, Mario ain't a "let it rip" coach. His 10+ years as HC tell us as much.

this bunch doesn’t know how to show up. They’re undisciplined unprepared underachievers. With 4 games left they’re going to “ let it rip?. So they beat up on a wounded Syracuse team then what? Seasons over!

Expect NC State and PITT losses. Portal season is around the corner and multiple players on offense could leave - TE 1 or 2, RB 1 or 2, QB 1 or 2, OL, with Bell, Mauigoa, and Copper potential entering the draft and Brockermeyer a senior; if 1-2 underclass OL leave it will be devastation. All the kickers will need to be replaced also. Next year will be Mario's most challenging coaching year since his first year at FIU.

Man things sound bleak. Sounds like we are in bad shape at TE, QB, C, LG, RB, WR, and COACH.

I guess at this point my main question is who do we hire in two years when Mario is fired?

It won't be Kiffin.

That boat has sailed.

Has anyone else noted that Arkansas and Oklahoma seems to draw some really good, innovative coaches pass through somewhere? Even Arkansas State has had some younger, innovative coaches. I think Jimmy Johnson played for Arkansas and was at Oklahoma State.

Just saying . . . instead of running older names through the tick trough, and a recycle - there's some really good younger coaches who'd give their left nut to coach at UM.

It's not like they'd ***** up here and there - something we've never seen - but they might be hungry to put in the work and not put their entire career in running into super stacked boxes at the A Gap.

And for Heaven's sake - no more former players.

Sigh- here comes another failed Miami coach… except we’re going to have to wait 4 years until we can afford to fire him.

Even in our wins we lack the killer instinct and let other teams back in the games. That’s a Mario problem that has followed him from Oregon.

And unfortunately I don’t see him making changes to correct it (I would be soo happy if I was wrong here).

They can definitely fix the pace of the offense. That would help at least keep teams in poor looks that benefit the offense.

This team has always been sloppy. That’s not going to change.

So they’re going to burn valuable correction calories on the penalties (long term, behavioral) instead of on the scheme and pace of the offense (immediate, systemic).

Dumb. *****.
Exactly.
