It is indeed undersized for stuffing the run. Most P5 programs are putting 2 300 lb guys next to one another, while we have a whopping 2 on the roster. Certainly not going to compete with the big boys up front this light.
It's a good thing we won't need to compete with them this year! Next year is our year especially with playoff going up to 12 teams I low-key think Mario is targeting 24' as our break out year.

Certainly not going to compete with the big boys up front this light. These guys put so much emphasis on OL and not enough on DT. Without bringing in enough premier HS talent at the position they have slowed the development at the position and we will be portal shopping (just like Diaz did annually) at the position yet again next year. They say they don’t want to overpay for portal recruits yet we are light at the position, all while these coaches stated themselves that they need to get bigger/stronger at the LOS.

Marshall was 5th in the country against the run last season with similarly sized DLinemen. Guidrys defense doesn’t need it.

the obsession with 300 pounds on this board the last 3 months is one of the strangest things I've come across in my 10 years here on CIS

Pitt was 2nd in sacks, 8th in rushing defense and their DL from last year had nearly identical size to our unit (which has only gotten more talented since the end of the season)

The average size and weight of the University of Pittsburgh Panthers starting defensive line in 2022 was 6'2" and 285 pounds.

The starting defensive line consisted of:

  • Defensive end: Patrick Jones II, 6'5", 265 pounds
  • Defensive end: Deslin Alexandre, 6'4", 275 pounds
  • Defensive tackle: Calijah Kaʻai, 6'2", 300 pounds
  • Defensive tackle: Keyshon Camp, 6'3", 290 pounds

Marshall was 5th last season and none of their top producing 5-6 DL were 300.

Yeah man

Our problem hasn’t necessarily been size it’s been that our guys stink

Imagine a coaching staff making the most of what they got? Wild right?

Deen looks pretty **** good

Gore was a reach but we also need everything we can get

Maybe I’m wrong though

The obsession with actually trying to compete with Clemson this year is important to the future of this program.

These coaches should have put the same premium on DT recruiting that they did on the OL this year. Instead they only brought in one. After all, they said themselves that we have to get bigger/stronger on the LOS. LMFAO at this being an obsession when most P5 programs have 2 guys on the field at the same time with that stature and have others coming off the bench. We have…..,count them…..2 guys on the roster that size. LT is one of those guys and he is a pure 3 technique. The idea is to be able to compete against the big boys in the near future. Not get obliterated at the LOS by a team like Clemson. That is likely to happen again this year. Every year they don’t bring enough in the HS classes is another year delayed in development at the position with guys that can actually compete. Not a slew of undersized portal reaches who are all 3 technique guys.

The last 2 best DTs we had were Moten and Willis. Moten was 285, Willis 275. Miami roster listed them at that. We have had 300 lb linemen. Manny had Ford and Miller over 300lb. But the more productive ones were the first 2 i listed. Deen playee in the big 10. Not being 300lb didnt stop him from making plays against NFL OL. If a guy can play, bring him in. With these spread offense, teams are hardly lining up in the I formation and pounding it ahead

The logic is broken, if we were surrendering 40-50 pounds on the line I would agree but we’ll be on average 10 pounds less than Clemson which is just not enough of a difference to warrant the *****ing and moaning on here

It’s been proven time and again with multiple teams that with the right talent and scheme, the size of our line can still be elite

Branson deen proved he can get pressure against BIG 10 OL (who are bigger than in the ACC), gore has proven himself, Campbell is 6’7 285. All three are huge additions and just because you can’t look past them not having 15 pounds more of bad weight on them doesn’t change that

Really glad we got this young man. Super proud of our staff's efforts and looking forward to seeing how getting these guys translates to the field this season. Go Canes 🏈

Yall look at portal recruits wrong. I'll say it again, you are hardly gonna find highly productive guys in the portal. My judgement is not so much on the production but the athletics. Can they compete against Power 5 and ACC athletes.

You seen the NFL coaches draft Richardson #4 overall. Thats nothing to do with production. That was all athletics and projection. We needed bodies on the DL, its on our coaches to make him productive here.

In fairness, I wouldn’t throw Richardson or NFL scouts in to the mix. The fact is many of these guys have no business being in their position. A lot of those positions r filled w/ cronyism & nepotism.

There’s also a ton of **** poor ran franchises who have individuals that look at practice, highlight films, and shorts/t-shirt drills vs. the entirety of the body of work. Hence, a lot of reach picks are made on potential vs. actual production.

I’m all for projects when that project has time to grow & be groomed. Throwing a project into the line of fire when they aren’t ready can kill any potential, immediately.

Yeah i get that but my point is im judging the player's athletic ability. Also these players most are coming in as rotational guys. Because thats what the DL needs, guys who can play but doesnt have to be the main man.

DE needs rotational guys but DT needs difference makers and rotational guys. No spot is locked in at DT, not even LT’s and we all know his ceiling is sky high.
