Richt was on College Football Nation on XM and says he did the best he could with the time he and new staff have. Credit the other staff for having the stud LBs in the fold when he got here. Rave about Allison arm strenght and accuracy and the potential the kid have once put some muscle on that frame. Going forward will focus on the 50 miles radius around Miami and will go after big time national recruits. Plan to have a monster 2017 recruiting year.

Solid class w/ a lot of quality players that we will be talking about in a good way in the future.

Love that we didn't just go out and try grabbing anybody to fill the class like Golden used to do

I don't think he forgot how to recruit. But it IS different recruiting at Miami than it is at a $EC school where bagmen close the deal for you.

I would like to see Richt offer and accept commitments from the tier 2 south florida players, and leave room for a few studs on signing day. You mentioned Wiggins for example. Perfect example here. Chasing stars at Miami has never been the way. U can build a top 10 team with all the south florida kids the Big 3 doesn't want: see Louisville for proof. Point being, Miami is at it's best when we build depth by recruiting a ton of athletes from our backyard, regardless if they have 5 stars next to their name. Depth is much more important than winning NSD when your depth is a bunch of SoFla savages.

I'd like to see an approach more akin to Howard, JJ, and Butch. This way, you don't put all your eggs in the basket of a kid who may end up getting a bag of cash to leave you at the alter.

If Richt isn't an idiot, which I don't think he is, he will have learned his lesson this cycle. Hopefully next year we don't push out the Wiggins, Phillips, etc. of the class.

Richt felt those guys were reaches.....for now, we should trust his evaluation

We whiffed at the 2 positions of need CB and DT. Thats cause for concern regardless of transition. We got a solid group coming in though. CB depth is scary thin.

The fretting over the loss of Williams is not only beneath us but is rendered absolutely moot by the other WR's in this class. May his name be forgotten almost as quickly as invitations to the Byrd-Fils-aime wedding are thrown in the trash.

If I told you after the Clemson game that we could fire Golden and keep all of these guys, everybody would've been thrilled. We also added some nice pieces around them without absorbing mediocre talent. A small class this year sets up a monster in 2017.

This says it all.

seems to me there are a LOT of 4 Star studs out of the 18 commits. for a perennial loser power like Miami to get a top twenty recruiting class two months after the entire staff was fired and Golden going 28-28 is pretty amazing

Thanks DMoney. Great write up. Couldn't agree more. On a side note and anyone can answer...who are the 2 guys with Mullins? The sharp dress Cane below Bruce and the big fella?

Go Canes!

Out of 18 recruits, 10 ESPN 300, an ESPN 4 star (Wright), An Army All-American (Young), a LB in Pinckney that will be a stud here! Not a bad haul at all!

For 2017, 8 ESPN 300 for so far and I believe we have half of that number this time last year.

Go Canes!

2 guys with Mullins - S Cedrick Wright (on Mullins' right) and DE Joe Jackson (on Mullins' left)
The one below Bruce - CB Malek Young
Big fella - OL Tre Johnson

where is the chart which has all 18 commits, their details and the other offers they had gotten?

it would be interesting to see how many schools we beat out for some of these studs (bama, gators, Noles)

The board would be in meltdown mode if Golden lost Byrd and Williams this late.

FWIW, I agree with D$ except for the 2nd-4th paragraphs. Excuses are for losers. And if you want to talk about perspective, you have to look at where those classes were when the new coach took over and where they ended up. You can't just lump all transition classes together as one.

Thanks. Fired up to see these guys in orange and green. I think it's a great foundation to build on.

Go Canes!

It's not very hard to go from 87th to 37th for a big school like Michigan. You're jumping bottom-feeders like Syracuse and Wake Forest. All you need to do is sign bodies.

The point is that it's really hard to break into the elite level in a transition class. Especially for a program that has been in a rut like Miami.

This class seems to compare pretty well to the first class Shannon signed after taking over for Coker, which at the time seemed like a pretty big success because we "closed strong". That class had 18 commits with 10 of them being 4 or 5 stars. Without a doubt it was his most efficient class because almost half of them ended up going to the NFL at least for a small stretch.

We also have the fewest commits of all Top 20 classes, which I think is impressive and sets us up for the oft-referenced to "next class."

we had less misses than in many years. we have some great talent, more than in many years. we have no undeserved offers except maybe James (dont know enough). all this with 15 years of mediocrity, 3 coaches fired in a row, all this while assembling a new staff and preparing for NSD with only 45. i couldnt be happier, even though we lost Byrd. in context, i give it an A.

Great post, Money. It seems, however, that other major P5 programs agreed with Richt's evaluation of guys like Phillips and Wiggins. Not so sure you can consider it a mistake dropping guys that no one else wanted either.

Maybe they'll prove everyone wrong, but I'll trust Richt and the entire rest of marquee P5 programs over Folden on these guys. UM won't get back where we belong beating Toledo and Cincinnati for many recruits. They might prove everyone wrong, or, more likely, there are some big flaws that kept every marquee program away from them.

It is the same. You can't expect for him to come in and fill every position of need with big time recruits with only a month to do it.
