Is Joe Brown the only Al Golden special that worked ?

1. Thurston Armbrister
2. Walter Tucker
3. Corn Elder

All worked

So now the legend is going to be that 4 star, plus athlete Elder was a "project" or a scrap heap guy?

And what has Tucker done to exceed his athletic ability? The guy was a champion track athlete and a very productive RB the year Sony was hurt. So far, he's been a sparingly used backup who hasn't made a play.

He was lightly recruited who signed with us in June. As productive as he might have been that kid had no place to play until June. He made the transition to fullback last year and had a good year.

Whatchu got on Djoku, Reezy?

He's ready to make an impact. I like the tight ends group a lot. None of them are Clive but they can all play a role.

Djoku's issue last year was the playbook. Brad loves him

Great write-up Pete.

Why is Guy Thomas listed as attending SJB Academy in Miami on 247sports? Never heard of that hs before. And I'm curious.

Saint Jean Baptiste Leadership Academy is a school started by Mike Tunsil and Jon "Genron" Drummond. Thomas did not transfer there as was rumored

He was heading to Clemson. Then we offered him. That's why he came here late.

Lots of hope in this article.
1. Scott has never made it thru an entire season
2. Edwards runs too stiff and will face competition from Yearby and Walton. I'd say he doesn't get more than 800yds
3. Joe Brown? Heck, I didn't know he was a 'ship player.

He was heading to Clemson to run track. Not football. They weren't guaranteeing him a football spot. One of the reasons he picked us is because it was leaning to him not being able to play football.

Isn't Elder considered an AG special too since he was signed after signing day seemingly out of nowhere? Wasn't a whole lot of hype around Herndon either when he signed. Noone liked Jenkins aka the NJ kid, but for a freshman i thought he did pretty well at DT. Obvously there are plenty of ****ters to name too though like hunter wells, vernon davis, o'donnel, larry hope etc.

We can thank Hurlie for getting Corn to wait till after signing day as he convinced Golden to sign him. He was about to sign with Urban Meyer.

Hurlie was responsible for the signing of Corn and Griffin (dammit mane). Two OOS 4-stars.

Not sure how you call a 4-star an "AG Special", when he had offers from almost every school.

Ah, wonderful. Jon "Genron" Drummond, the esteemed educator and recruiting facilitator, is in on the ground floor of another institution of higher learning - this is a joke, right? Only in America. And love the name, SJB Leadership Academy.

I'm familiar with his story. It doesn't change the fact that he was headed to Clemson, and we were desperate for RBs because we struck out on everyone. That's why we got him at the last minute.

On top of that, he still hasn't done anything to merit being called a diamond in the rough type of discovery. He's done nothing yet.

That is Mike Tunsil and Jon Drummonds newly created academy. They are back in business keeping kids eligible. Pretty hysterical considering Drummond is the head of curriculum...

Nice to get some info..

Gus will be sorely needed to play well this year. So long as Kayaa develops nicely and keeps turnovers down (and shortens the amount of his happy feet dance) a big part of the season hinges on some production from running back. We are going to need two backs to fill the void Duke is leaving behind.

Getting some pass rush consistently is another huge factor. I have hope for AQM and him coming back with a chip on his shoulder come gametime.

I have been watching UM football every year for over 30 years. Been through it all. This 10 year plus drought we are in sucks bad. But I will say. I was holding my breath about the Adidas switch, from all these Nike years. But you know what, the stuff is not bad at all. It keeps us looking clean, from what I have seen so far. Last couple of years some of our Nike Uni's made us look like Pumpkins, half ****d storm trooper uni's and so -on. The stuff really was not that good. Including the funky helmets.

So maybe this Adidas ish will work.

Dude was going to Clemson to run track. Saying he was going to Clemson and that makes him less of a diamond in the rough type is weak. If he was all set to go to Clemson as you say he would've signed a NLI to play football in February and he wouldn't be available.

He went from late signee and special teamer to starting fullback. He's done well in two years.

**With fall camp starting up this week, here are some things you should not be surprised to see this season:

--Gus Edwards goes for 1,000 yards. I don’t buy into Greentree hype easily, but this is his year. Fastest running back on the roster. Coaches believe the switch finally flipped for him.

--Rashawn Scott puts up better numbers than Phillip Dorsett last year. Dorsett went for 36 receptions, 871 yards, and 10 TDs in his senior year and some Canes fans wished he had been targeted more. I can see Scott catching 50 passes this year and going for 900 yards and 10 touchdowns. Although Scott is not the same sort of deep threat that Dorsett was, he will be Brad Kaaya’s guy when the going gets tough. Look for him to be a 3rd down machine.

--Chris Herndon becomes a pivotal part of the offense. Herndon can block, catch, and run. James Coley will have the ability to flex him out wide or use him in the backfield as a blocker. X-factor

--Joe Brown becomes a big part of the offensive line rotation. We all know how Art Kehoe loves his rotations, and with all the questions on the line, I see Brown as a darkhorse to snatch up a lot of playing time. Brown is a kid who the Miami staff caught some flak for offering, but he has developed nicely and showed ability during the spring.

--Corn Elder emerges as Miami’s best cornerback. Although Artie Burns is the best pro prospect at corner on this team, Elder is ready to shine. He is healthy and the loss of Antonio Crawford leads to him being thrown into the spotlight. More reps will equal more plays.

--Freshman QB Evan Shirreffs catches very positive buzz throughout camp and presumably as a practice squad quarterback. James Coley’s ability to find quarterbacks has been well documented and Shirreffs is a guy with nice film, throws a beautiful ball, and has already received good reviews as far as work ethic.

--All black uniforms

**Here is a look at some new cleats for the Canes. Icy:

**I stopped by Columbus last night for their opening practice of fall and I continue to be impressed with the potential of their team this year. That potential Flanagan matchup in the playoffs once again is extremely intriguing.

--The Explorers are led defensively by what could be one of the most devastating pass-rush tandems in the entire country. Miami commit Josh Uche and 2017 DE/OLB Guy Thomas (little brother of Matthew Thomas) are both lengthy, explosive bodies who are still growing into their frame. Defensive Line coach Pedro Marti wants to make sure those guys are bringing it on every snap.

--Uche came up to me earlier in the day when I was on campus to tell me that he already sees Canes fans worried about his commitment, but that he is completely solid. He received offers from Florida and Alabama over the last two weeks. From talking to people around the Columbus program, they agree that Uche will stick. His family is big on academics and Miami has done a good job selling him on that.

--The defensive backfield is special too and will give defense coordinator Alex Trujillo a lot of flexibility to send pressure. 2018 Miami commit Joshua “Woogie” Jobe can play either corner or safety with his size. 2017 CB Trajan Bandy can be on an island and is a huge weapon covering slot receivers. 2017 CB Marlin Brooks (son of Nate Brooks) is smooth. Good luck throwing on these guys this season.

--Offensively, I really like what I see from senior QB Alex Ros. Ros brings some athleticism to the quarterback spot for the Explorers and can really extend the play with his feet. Watch for him to be a breakout star in South Florida this season.

Dorsett averaged 24.2 yds/rec. last season. No Miami WR including Scott will come close.

Joe Brown will have a tough time staying in front of true Freshman St Louis, Gauthier, and Milo.

Herdon will not be a prominent part of the offense this year. Njoku would be a better bet and he is a long shot.
