Nice work Pete. Anybody know what people thought of richts jr day compared to goldens? Seems like there was a ton of talent on campus this weekend, a nice change.

the best thing i heard was hs coaches saying junior day was so much better then under golden. i am shocked to learn they thought golden's jr days were jokes. shows that in less then 3 months richt and this staff have way more respect in s fla then golden or shannon ever did.

**Today was Miami’s first junior day under Mark Richt. Check here for a list of visitors and general updates from the day (shoutout to Geo305 and ErickMarreroU for their work) - https://www.canesinsight.com/thread/february-20th-junior-day-attendees/97492/15 - This edition of the work will focus on insider's notes from today's happenings.

**Potentially the biggest development from today is Miami making an extremely positive move with Daytona Mainland Safety Cyrus F'agan, who is the #2 safety in the country according to 247. F'agan made the trip for junior day with both of his parents. Not only were F'agan and his family there for the day, but they also stayed afterwards for the baseball game with Safeties Coach Ephraim Banda. The Canes believe that this visit has moved them right near the top for F'agan.

**Miami is the frontrunner for Palm Beach Gardens safety Amari Carter and today only strengthened their chances. Commitment watch looming.

**Mater Academy CB Latavious Brini was offered by Miami last week and I mentioned it would be a battle for him. Brini was up in Tallahassee this weekend but will be on Miami’s campus this upcoming Thursday with his parents. Canes feeling confident here and that would be a huge pickup. Brini has the length that this staff is looking for. Banda is on him hard.

--Sidenote: Banda is absolutely killing it from what I’ve been told. He is a star on this staff from a recruiting standpoint.

**Norland Offensive Tackle Kadeem Telfort is currently a UF commit, but was previously committed to the Canes. He was on campus today and Miami believes that they are right in the thick of things for him. A flip would not surprise me. Telfort is a top priority for OL Coach Stacy Searels.

**Kathleen LB Ventrell Miller is a big target for the Canes right now. The defensive staff absolutely loves him. In a year that linebacker numbers will be small, Miller is a take for Miami and they like their chances after today.

**N’Kosi Perry decommitted from Miami a couple weeks ago, but he is the top target by far at the quarterback position right now. Mark Richt is a huge believer in Perry, so that should silence some talk that the new staff dropped Perry. Let me make that clear – Perry is one of the top prospects on Miami’s board for 2017 – all positions included.

**STA WR Trevon Grimes was in attendance for today’s junior day. Ohio State is the favorite, but Miami will not go down without a fight and it is important to note that Grimes is listening – this is not a one-way thing.

**This next sentence should be music to Canes fans ears. The defensive board consists solely of prospects from the state of Florida. Manny Diaz is making it an absolute priority to recruit Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach before all else. He does not want to have to look out of the state for kids. Now does that mean there won’t wind up being an out of state signee in this class? Of course not, but this is the philosophy that Canes fans and even outsiders have suggested should be used for years.

Generally I like the emphasis on the tri-county area, but not wanting to look out of state? Forget Cortez Kennedy, Greg Mark, Danny Stubbs, Rusty Medearis, D.J. Williams, Jessie Armstead....

I think we need to focus hard and prioritize south Florida, but you can't pass up some of the gems we've gotten from outside the state.

I think Miami's class should consist of 75-80 percent Florida players every year. Leave the rest for elite players in areas like ga, Cali, Nola, New Jersey
You forgot texas

There's a lot of talent in the Tidewater area of Virginia. There's talent throughout the south, including the Carolinas and Alabama, and to some extent Mississippi. Because of Richt's long tenure at FSU and Georgia, I think he'll be very familiar and comfortable with recruiting the southern states, something our other coaches could not.

Someone can refresh my memory but in the last 15-20 years other than Ed Reed what DB did we sign that was a stud here.Same with LB DJ and Mcintosh are the only 2 standouts I can remember. We really don't need to leave the state at these 2 positions. Now DT we definetely need to steal one from Georgia,Louisiana or nationally every year.

One thing that drove us out of state for a long time was the disproportionate number of good players in south Florida who were weak academically. Since the mid-80's, we've had to pass on a tremendous number of kids we wanted to recruit but we couldn't. It seemed to be a huge problem in the late '80s when so many players were prop 48's. JJ didn't like prop 48s, said they were more trouble than they were worth. A lot of kids we wanted had to go JUCO or prep school. More often than not, we never got them back.

Did jarez park make it? Haven't seen any pics of him on the Internet

Banda exploiting his soFla roots for recruiting purposes.....eh....uh...wait, what?

So much for having to hire folks with soFla roots.

The Balt-DC-noVA area is one area we must focus on.
It is loaded with prep talent every year, and those kids are open to leaving the area.
The area is also growing population-wise, with many families from the Carribbean and
west Africa moving into the area.
UM coaches apparently agree as they will be helping out in some DeMatha HS camp.

We can fill our roster almost entirely with florida kids, amd probably should. QBs you can take from wherever. Now and then you have to branch out for an OL or DL. But skill positions, LBs, DBs -- can find them locally all day every day. And the more local kids we take, the more we raise the cost of hunting in so fla for other programs. And the more we build bridges locally that pay dividends. Ultimately, you take a non-local kid if he's elite or it's a need spot and you have to. But heavy florida is the way to go, and don't tell me about the '80s. It ain't the '80s. Times have changed. We should play to our strength. And recruiting locally means less travel for the staff anyhow, which should be a better model. They can cover way more kids in so fla than nationally.

I like the focus but they can't rely on this method. Florida barely produces any DTs. FSU has landed ALL four of the blue chip DTs from Florida in the past three cycles (since Moten in 2014)

Got to get more star power at this position.

The staff is most certainly aware of that fact. I think Banda meant focus on the tri-county area for the types of positions that area produces in abundance like CB, S, LB and DE. DT recruiting must be national due to the general scarcity of the position.
