I’m just worried about hanging onto what we do have. The optics look awful right now, this is a chance for vultures like UF and UGA to swoop in on some of our commits.

On UF: when we played them last year, it was Graham Mertz at QB. This year it’s lagway, probably the best QB in the country. I don’t expect there to be anything remotely resembling the apparent talent gap we saw last year.

On recruits: this program hasn’t been able to develop for 20 years. We don’t have enough day 1-2 draft picks. We live in the portal despite recruiting a roster full of blue chips every year. That needs to change.

On the bright side, if Miami does put it together for a full season, this is still a cool place to be. As fast as the momentum recently shifted against us, it can come right back. Gotta win on the field.
didn’t realize 12 tds and 9 ints equates to the best in the country now.

I don’t get too into recruiting anymore as it has become a carnival show. There have been some good points made in this thread and some delusion.

I said the following in January and I stand by it: “We lost to teams we shouldn’t have, which is a Mario constant. He is who he has always been: a mediocre coach who recruits well. NIL has eroded his recruiting advantage and so we are left with a mediocre coach with a mediocre overall football operations staff.

Miami needs more elite players. Whether portal or high school, we simply aren’t getting enough of them. We have had how many elite players in the past decade? 5, maybe? OSU has 3 this year. Player development at UM has been a problem for 20 years, across multiple coaches, and it continues today.”

Maybe this roster is better than I think and we win the ACC. That’s a start. But do we have the details down for building on that — put another way, is our overall football operation as it stands good enough to consistently run with the big boys. I have my doubts.

This thread has broken a lot of yalls brains. This place has gone into absolute panic mode so quick lol. This season will tell us just about everything we need to know...

We are almost certainly spending in the 5-10 range for NIL on the team as a whole. Where we stack up in cash avaialble for this 26 HS class IDK, but I'd bet its closer to 10 than 3.... There are some programs clearly spending more that have performed worse on the field than us recently, but will out-recruit us on average or especially for any handful of recruits. We probably win very few of those head to head battles where we are the clear lower bidder because we don't have a great performance record even if it's better than some of these teams (like USC/A&M). Being slightly better but still bad doesn't count for all that much. Then There are some programs spending basically the same as us that have consistently performed MUCH better on the field, and thus will out recruit us on many recruits, but we will still win some H2H battles over them (UGA/Bama/OhioSt/Clemson). There are some programs that both outspend and outperform us recently (Texas/Oregon/etc), that it will be VERY difficult for us to win H2H battles against. Then finally there are programs that may spend less on average but can match or even spend more for any 1 recruit and win a single H2H recruiting battle. .... All these are factors Mario has to overcome to get us to the goal of top 5 class. It's still only July. There is a lot of time, but top 5 is a goal, It's very difficult to accomplish. Right now we're currently sitting on a good class that needs a handful of players to become a great class. Basically if we can flip like 2 top Dlineman at some point this year, our class will be looking VERY Good. And right now, I'd say It's VERY likely this class ends as Marios 2nd best class here, regardless of all the current doom and gloom right now. Recruiting aint for the weak, and right now there is a lot of people acting like little girls tbh. Theres 5 months and a whole ******* season to play until NSD.

We have also consistently improved season after season, and have possibly the most complete team on paper we've had in like 20 years. Obviously a lot rides on this season. Its up to Mario to maintain/continue that positive trajectory. There are multiple ways this can be done. 1. Winning the ACC, 2. Making the CFP. 3. Winning 11 games. If any of those 3 things happen, this season will have been a success. But at an absolute minimum we can't take a step back and We absolutely can not have any bs blown games against teams we should easily beat this year. There are 5 key opponents - Louisville, SMU, FSU, ND, and UF. We need to win minimum 3 of those games and then run the table on the rest.

I’m just trying to understand how we went from having the season we did last year, 1st overall pick and most recently the #1 recruit to now the whole thing going to **** lol.

Is this all a smoke screen? Or this **** really as bad ans some are making it.

I've said it all along, he's here to make the team respectable. 9 or 10 win seasons, win the ACC a time or two in a decade, and that puts us with a shot to win it all. Perennial power and national championship days are over. He's got a lifetime job if he wants it and that's why he got the contract he did.

Truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

You’re moving the goal posts to defend Mario.

My exact quote was “winning happens fast or it doesn’t happen.” Harbaugh won immediately.

Saban never won at MSU. He won immediately at LSU. Are you saying winning the SEC in year 2, isn’t winning immediately?
I'm not defending Mario. I'm pointing out your thinking in absolutes is wrong.

There are several coaches where Rome wasn't built in a day including Saban and Dabo.

Will there ever be another Bank, or was this installment the Coda?

I know it’s sacrilegious to give props to a gator around here, but this kid scares me. I’m much more nervous about the gators than I am ND with a first time starter at QB coming to Hard Rock.
How can you be scared of a kid coming off an arm injury that we play early in the season who can't complete 60% of his passes? Can we lose that game? Sure we can. Should we be scared of the the legend of Bagway? No.

Someone is lying bc insiders swore that we were throwing big $ in this year’s cycle (more than one insider has said that on this board) - like top 2-3 NIL type money. Now the narrative is we only have enough NIL to sign one 5 star? Not buying it considering we were after a bunch of 5 stars.

Something isn't adding up…I get it these are all really tough pulls form us, and I said yesterday I really think it kills us being in the ACC

But to whiff on like our last 12 or so??

I really think our NIL money is more top 8-10 than the top 3 some think it is. JMO.

---------

The one thing I would say is regarding Cantwell…And I don't know if this is the right way to look at things, but it is definitely another way. Outside of year 1 UM…The CMC/Mirabal combo has never fielded a bad OL…It's basically never been worse than top 15 with several top 7-10 OLs

Did we really need to spend on Cantwell then? The OL is going to be very good no matter what. Do we have to throw the whole shooting match at the #1 OL recruit in the nation when we probably could have gotten Kolojay/J.Jones/M.Smith types for less and we could coach them up??

This is only an issue if we are indeed getting outbid for the last 3 weeks, which I although it may not be the case for all of these players it almost has to be the case for a few of the.

I'm not referring to the sales pitch needed to get him on campus .... just that multiples sites have stated he could be elite at S

I know you aren't. Just speaking outlaid about what I hope the staff doesn't do.
