So was I wrong? Lmao
To quote Mark McGwire, "I'm not here to talk about the past." Except that's exactly what he was there for. If you're going to call someone an idiot, ya might want to proofread that ish before hitting "post reply." Don't feel bad though, I've done it a million times. Just feels good that this one time it wasn't me.

90% of my posts are tongue in cheek/slapstick/stupid humor. You just happened to be the butt of my joke in this case.

I guess maybe we look at it differently. Are you looking at development as an OL coach only? I tend to agree with that because I severely doubt the direct impact Mario would have in developing a LB or CB, aside from hiring the right guys to develop them but for our purposes I was candidly talking about him as a global CEO of the team so that could be the disconnect.

I take him as the HC so he gets the benefit and the criticism for all the players. Ward obviously got better here, Cooper is the easy low hanging fruit of a good eval and development. Arroyo went in the second round, Rivers was floundering and he got drafted. I was not considering his time at oregon for this discussion as that would include the championships etc. or limiting it to OL because if we do that why stop there? When he was at Bama he recruited and developed/coached Cam Robinson, Jonah Williams, Alex Leatherwood, and Ryan Kelly. I think Kelly and Sewell were with him all 3 years as their direct position coach and all went in 1st/2nd rounds. I know a lot of those are Bama players but would you give that development credit to Saban who is a known DB guy? And if you do give it to Saban then Mario would get the development credit for Justin Herbert and Kayvon, all top 10 picks including Sewell. I dont think any other head coach has had 3 players drafted top 10 in 2 consecutive years (maybe Saban or like Bear Bryant back in the day) Mario was at Oregon from 2018-2021 I believe so a lot of his guys were just starting to turn draft eligible. Same here now.

Since this is his 4th year hard to gauge a lot of development as his classes are just now starting to turn into NFL prospects. Then I just fall back on name 15 HC who are better "developers" and I think top 5 would be relatively easy. 6-15 gets reallllll murky and all resumes will have holes and will at least be comparable to Mario. If I cant name 15 people better, I cant say he aint in the top 15 lol
People on here talk about Mario being an elite recruiter, I think he’s very good not elite, and about him and Alex I guess being elite on the OL. I don’t see elite OL results anywhere he was a head coach. Only Sewell went high in the draft. Elite position development would be like when venables was the DC at Clemson and he and Dabo I guess put out elite DL going high in the draft multiple times. Same with UGA and Linebackers, LSU with DBs, Ohio State with WRs. We’re not on that level with those schools at the position Mario is heralded for. Those are elite results. He does a good job with OL. He does a good job in recruiting. Nothing is elite so I don’t think he’s a top 10 or 15 developer of talent. It’s ok we can disagree. I’m good with you certainly. It’s just that I kept hearing about the elite development at OL and it’s not at that level in my opinion though I think he does a very good job there.

eh 90% of my responses are typed on my phone. Proofreading for grammar/spelling is a waste of time.

No. Mario was brought here to recruit. He’s supposed to recruit at a high level with the NIL he has. But he’s also supposed to evaluate, develop and coach. He’s not top 15 in those things, not even close as to coaching.
True, this year will be his first true full class of juniors with Bain, Francis, etc…

Big ones I wanna see make the jump in terms of development is Wes, Popo, Jojo and Bell. Immense talent with 3 of those dudes being draft eligible and should be day two picks at worse

Can you elaborate on the happy?
I think that’s the ceiling of this team, and we usually don’t reach our ceiling…My expectations are much lower than most of the board tho

To me 9 wins is a good year that keeps us going in the right direction after losing cam and majority of our weapons, everyone seems too caught up in the narrative side of it than reality

Unimpeachable Mario/Mirabal 2023 class:

Francis: freak. Thank god
Samson: 5 star flop so far
Tripp: who?
Kinsler: shrug
Tinilau: ran over a GT fan

2022 clearly good will there but cmon with this idea that he should never be questioned especially when our OL is where we spend a ton of money and resources
I remember i got killed when i said mario/mirabal are better developers than they are evaluators as far as oline

They wont have many high oline draft picks like bama/osu/oklahoma will but they do produce very good college olines. Its not a bad thing tho because you can allocate the money elsewhere but that hasn’t really worked out for us with big time game changers
