I’m not sure Mario could win with the 2001 roster…he’s got plenty enough talent to get to the ACCCG but figures out a wsy to ***** things up come November.

And I keep hearing about the ACC being a problem and maybe it is but Clemson seems to have figured out how to win big in this ****** league…
If we need an Alabama roster to win the acc it says everything about our approach to game day … and coaching staffs

thats the point. I was not a Mario fan. I didnt want that hire to be honest but if he dont get it going, we are DONE. he has to make it work.
Maybe I’m too much of an optimist, but I don’t think the long-term viability of the program hinges on Mario — even with his strong financial backing. If he’s not the guy, there’s always a chance the next hire is. And over a long enough timeline, I’d argue it’s likely that UM eventually lands a great HC.

Once the right coach is in place, he’ll benefit from the same positive flywheel effect we see at elite programs today: strong development and scheme->wins->financial backing->recruiting momentum->better hires->more wins.

College football history is full of programs that were stuck in mediocrity for years — even decades — until the right coach came in and flipped the script. NIL hasn’t changed that possibility. If Mario doesn’t work out, it just means the search continues.

A bank named "The Forclosure"....lol. we're 1 level away from being Maryland.

My main gripe with this program for the past 20 years has been an inability to develop. I respect you as a poster so I’d like to hear you out on this.

When talking about development, it’s hard to put it all on the HC. It’s the position coaches who need to develop IMO, although Mario should have a role in developing OLmen.

When I think of the great developmental programs, it’s usually doing more with less. Narduzzi getting a 3 star and making him a draft pick. I don’t really consider a consensus 5 star like Mauigoa a feather in Mario’s cap when he goes first round.

IMO Miami has severely lacked in this area. Despite consistently signing blue chippers, the majority fail to get drafted or fully bust. The Greg Rousseaus are few and far between.

What I don’t understand is why this inability to develop seeming haunts every Miami staff. Is it something in the culture of the program? Something to do with S Fla kids? I don’t know. But to me it is a huge issue.
I think this year will tell us all. we saw kids like x, Isiah horton and Jacoby George develop under this staff. Arroyo too. Defense seems to be the issue. Manny wanted to be kids friends, some kids didnt even practice if they didnt want too. Now he has mostly his own kids, we shall see. I look at what Justin Scott or a Jordan lyle looks like this year and that will telll me.

I disagree. Look at golden 2012 class where he signed 32 guys. 26 of them was either bust, was solid but never played to ranking, or never did anything. Basically all his classes was the same. It was way more misses than hits. Why this team lacked depth for so many years under him.

He did do a good job finding a few lower ranked guys like Njoku, jackson, Herndon
I guess but golden wasn’t recruiting the top and he had an unfair sanctions cloud. I think he got Stacy Coley and Tracey Howard. I thought he identified some guys like njoku and some other three stars who developed.

Hold up.... so in the last 3yrs, y'all saying y'all would prefer uf's recruiting classes over ours?
We will not have UF classes with Mario. The question is can he win enough with what he gets. We will always be in the top ten in recruiting. Can Mario and staff pick the right kids to win big. He has failed to mail certain positions. DT he has 5 kids. Had we kept Collins A Horton and Jackson we would have a great group. Mario gets studs but can he find enough when we lose the bidding wars.

I asked about Kiffin because he seems to have a swagger that could be nice after a hard *** like Mario.

How would Fran Brown do at Miami? Kiffin? Who out there would excite the fan base. I’m not against Mario long term. I was being hypothetical. Part of winning is recruiting. That’s what we hired him to do. He’s always been good at it. Now when you miss on guys you have to have the right people in place that pick the right players. I don’t care what star is next to their name. Can Mario do that?

Not sure Mario fans want us to start comparing Goldens classes to his because I don’t think it would bode very well for him

Granted still a couple years to go but…

The problem with this is that the Head Coach 100% decides who to hire as assistants to identify and evaluate, recruit, develop and coach the players so this ultimately falls on the Head Coach.

I’m going to try to find something like this that covers Mario’s whole career.

I think this list is also inherently flawed because a team like UGA only takes so many 3 stars, presumably when they see a diamond in the rough. Whereas a team like Pitt is filled with 3stars, lowering its percentage even though they get players drafted.

Was that McElwain at Florida during those years? Probably his recruits at a minimum between him and Mullen.

He definitely recruited some high ranked guys. But would supplement them with a lot of guys who wasn’t Miami caliber. I gave him credit for some of those low 3 star he got that turned out good
