Have you played FB at a high level? Nope, you are a CIS posters that has had bad takes since 2006. We know why you slurp and defend Mario. We lost the GT cause of our **** defense that couldn't defend against one arm QB and we lost to GT cause we decided to stop feeding Martinez and also cause of our **** defense. Cam made the running game look good. Nobody was saying lets stop the run besides mental midgets like you.

Also Mario your boy, should have fired the Hick from Louisiana like week 8
we couldnt stop the run when we knew where they were running and what they were doing that day against GT.

it was a pathetic coaching display.

My biggest worry is how Beck responds to adversity. Do we get shell shocked Beck from last year, or does he play in the constraints of having a possible elite rushing attack and not press to the degree he did last season?

I won’t allow myself to drink the kool-aid. Last year broke me. I’m just too battered and bruised to believe without seeing anymore.
Tell us you know nothing about Beck without actually telling us you know nothing about Beck. LOL

I think we will be good but I am skeptical until I see the WRs.

Our Savior is either CJ Daniels, who was the 4th best receiver at LSU and they didnt want him back or Toney a 3/4 star Freshman not a 5* star like Smith and Williams. If CJ is the guy then no shot at a championship, he can't be our best WR.
Agreed. This is where I'm at with the receivers. I can see the potential at DT, for example, even though we're unproven there because guys are older and have more prototype bodies.

But WR lacks veteran talent. We're really counting on young guys with no almost no experience to step up . . . in game 1 . . . against perhaps the top secondary in the country. That's scary.

ND is a tough first opponent. It's going to be a challenge.

Sorry to **** on everyone’s parade, but did anyone else read between the lines in regards to the WR comments? If we’re relying on Toney to be WR1 or 2, we pretty much struck out in the portal at that position. I didn’t have much hope for Marion (he’s an elite special teams player but a rigid route runner and it doesn’t seem like the light will go on here), and Johnson is a depth addition. Kind of knew that already, so no change there.

But… If Daniels isn’t being talked about like he should he putting up close to 1k receiving yards, I’d be concerned about the unit. Relying on TF…especially one that’s supposed to still be at American Heritage… that’s a bold strategy cotton.

I do think the defense will be a top 40 unit in America, so the expectations should be playoffs or bust. The pass rush should be improved, but I am still worried about defending the run on the interior.
Once yall realize there’s levels to this shii yall will stop worrying about the WR room. They had a good year, and the room was good for CFB level, but not a single guy, even Restrepo with his 1k yard season, was labeled as a future impactful NFL WR. Being a good college player and being an NFL level talent are 2 different levels. When they went against decent DBs who had the physical tools to stay with them and had trouble. Cam was held to 200yds and 0 TDs, luckily the run game was legit. There were even talks that Cam had better WRs at WSU.

My point is, replacing good college players is easy if you are running your program right. The hard part is replacing NFL level talent when they leave and as if rn UM has not lost that.

Other points, experience at WR is overrated, plenty of guys come in ready to contribute and make an impact. It’s more important to have a well balanced team, an above average defense 😂. 6 teams in the CFB playoffs had a 1k yd WR. Having a 1k yard WR isn’t the difference btw Miami making the playoffs or winning the ACC, it’s gonna depend on the defense improving and whether this team is balanced. As long as Miami can produce a 800yd WR and multiple 600-400yds WR they will be fine offensively. Thats pretty doable.

It’s a small sample size but swap out some players here and there and Dawsons offense has been fairly consistent with yards

I think Toney is gonna be a good one. My only concern is if we use him like X is he going to hold up physically. X took a fuggin beating game in and game out. His S&C and toughness were on another planet. Doesn’t mean Toney doesn’t work hard or can’t, it’s just a lot more to ask than numbers

But to your point someone is gonna rack up these yards. Who it ultimately is doesn’t matter to me. Would be nice if guys like Ny Carr would step up as quality depth

Hands-down Mario’s most complete team here and I would wager to say his most complete team as a head coach anywhere. I would put this team up against any of the Oregon teams he had. I truly believe we’re a real deal contender this year.

very optimistic outlook from someone that knows the game. i hope you are right amigo mio

WR gives me concern

We have no proven players there and are relying on a Soph (Trader), portal transfers and a true freshman

Again, Cams interceptions where mostly from staying in the pocket way to long and throwing a pick. Had he taken the check down, it wouldn’t have thrown them. Beck will take the check down.
Checkdowns? We still talking bout checkdowns?

As we shift to game week, I wanted to share some of my big picture thoughts from camp. This is based on my personal observations and sources.

- There's real confidence in Coral Gables. Everybody was excited last year, but there were deep concerns at defensive back. This year, there’s no glaring deficiency coming out of camp. That doesn’t mean the team is perfect, and the adversity of a college season will expose holes. But most veteran observers (myself included) believe this is the most complete roster in a couple decades.

- The biggest difference between this year and last year is the talent at defensive back. I believe this will be one of the best cornerback rooms in America. OJ Frederique had a great summer after a Freshman All-American season. Xavier Lucas and Damari Brown are 6+, 200+ pounders who can run. Ethan O’Connor turned down Georgia after picking off four passes as a freshman. This is a long, athletic group with good instincts. Charles Brantley would have been a slam-dunk starter last year and he might be #5.

- We also have a true nickel in Keionte Scott. Last year, Daryl Porter (a natural outside corner) took one for the team and moved inside. Scott is someone who majors in nickel and has NFL size/speed.

- Safety isn’t as spectacular as corner, but it's significantly improved. Zechariah Poyser and Jakobe Thomas are SEC-caliber safeties who can tackle. Bryce Fitzgerald might be the best athlete on the team. If he tackles on gameday, he won't leave the field. Bobby Pruitt can help at S and LB. Dylan Day and Markeith Williams are capable depth as well. This time last year, we were hoping for a Zaquan Patterson breakthrough. The room is a much better place now.

- The other big story is Carson Beck. He looks like a first round pick. His game has a nice combination of power and finesse. He’s a former third baseman who can drive the ball, but he also has some Dorsey in him. The ball leaves his hands fast. I don’t think we’ll be more “efficient” on offense- Ward’s offense was the best in America by a mile- but we should be very good.

- I have no concerns about our offensive line and running backs. They look the part and play the part. We should run the ball as well as anybody in America.

- At receiver, the most talented players are young guys like JoJo Trader, Josh Moore and Malachi Toney. We’ve seen it on Greentree, but they'll need to prove it in games. The safest bet to me is Toney. I think he leads the team in receiving. The veteran transfers (CJ Daniels, Keelan Marion, Tony Johnson) raise our floor. I expect all three to play against Notre Dame, and they have winning attitudes. Chance Robinson is a homegrown player trending in the right direction. He’s a big body who can get open and move the chains.

- I don’t think one player will replace Elijah Arroyo. His ability to get downfield at 6'4, 250 is rare. But this is a solid group. Elija Lofton is a complete player who will have a huge impact on the offense. I still think his NFL future is in the backfield. Tulane transfer Alex Bauman has bulked up and brings experience in the red zone. Freshman Luka Gilbert is massive (6’7, 265) and coordinated. He’ll play early.

- We’re starting to look the part on the defensive line. Many around the Hecht believe Rueben Bain will have a superstar season in this defense. Akheem Mesidor is a sixth-year player with real production (36 career TFLs and 23 sacks). He’s in great shape and playing his more natural outside spot. The guy who deserves more hype is David Blay, the Louisiana Tech transfer. He’s added weight and is generating buzz with NFL scouts. Blay is not an elite athlete, but he doesn’t stay blocked and battles double teams. The former five stars have all flashed throughout camp. For me, the safest bet in that group is Armondo Blount. He’s only 18 and has the total package of size, speed, power, nastiness and IQ.

- We’ve come a long way physically at linebacker since the Manny years. Mo Toure is the prototype, and Wesley Bissainthe has bulked up from 190 to a lean 230. Both guys have tons of experience. There’s more depth in the room, too. Kamal Bonner and Jaylin Alderman were ACC starters, Popo Aguirre played a bunch last year, Chase Smith is a fifth-year guy, and the freshmen Kellen Wiley (6’4, 238) has NFL tools.

- At kicker, the battle continues. Bert Auburn has made a lot of kicks in big games. Carter Davis is less experienced with field goals but has top-of-the-scale leg strength. His upside and improvement has made this a much closer battle than reported.

Overall, I share the confidence of the staff. This is a good and balanced team. I won't try to evaluate Corey Hetherman as an amateur watching from the sideline, but everyone is raving and the defense looks more connected to my untrained eye. If that side makes a 2016-type leap, and Beck stays healthy, this team will be a contender.
I like and hope this write up is 100% true. I would be ecstatic.

I am concerned about game 1 vs ND as I am hearing they have an elite D and a very good team all around so we are going to have our work cut out for us to win against ND. I will be happy with a dogfight in 4th Q with Miami having a chance to win. We have to temper our expectations and hope for the best. I hope Mario doesn't have a bad first game but no one knows what to expect until the lights come on Sunday night.

I am cautiously optimistic. Go canes!

Facts, great if we have a 1k WR, if not the offense will still be well balance and effective.

Yeah, why wouldn’t we, it cost us two games last year. Not saying the defense didn’t cost us those games too, but if Cam had just taken the check down., We win both those games. It’s OK to critique someone on that when it’s the truth. No one is ****ting on cam here, but if you know how to watch football, you can see that the check down was open all day every day, and he never took it.

Miami beats Syracuse going away, despite the defense, if Restrepo doesn't get pick pocketed for a fumble 6 and/or Horton makes an easy catch.

Not saying your opinion is wrong, it’s your opinion. Just saying it’s been discussed a lot and might be time to move on.

The only reason I bring it up is because you got fans on here that constantly claim, that Cam can do nothing wrong and any critique on him is pure insanity. That’s the only reason I bring it up because it’s the truth. If he would’ve took the check down, we’re in the playoffs last year. And I have full confidence that Beck will not make those same mistakes this year.
