FSU signed their Andrew Tallman.
The core of FSU and Miami are from Florida...I understand you haveta get sfla top-notch and sleeper kids ....That's a no brainier....But you guys must understand this is not the old days......schools have moved in to establish relationships.......Look at the Cambell situation back then without social media Clemson doesn't pull it off .....IMO they can easily keep in touch with sfla recruits more than ever....I'm not making excuses it's the way it is....we need to do the same....We are going g to recruit slfa kids hard they either want to be canes or not....our staff is at them hard on a daily basis....To get back Miami needs to get talent any way they can....Are you not tired of getting burnt by these sfla kids waiting on them to make a decision? We haveta play them like other top schools........sell Miami like it's a privilege or they will keep playing us second fiddle. When they see other elite kids come in from OOS it will make them change their perspective....IMO look at Harley he's already talking about challenging Thomas in a race....You can see the hunger now that cane fans have announced Thomas as the next prolific specialist..

He wasn't used as an example of a South Florida guy. He was an example of a lower-profile recruit who helped us beat FSU. Competing against Florida guys like Dan Morgan and Jon Vilma helped make him the competitor he became.
This staff is focused on Florida and South Florida but will pluck big-time talent from elsewhere. The ratios in this class were perfect. The school to the North is losing its way, and history says they are preparing for a fall.
If you fail to learn history (Canes recruiting post-2003/4) you are doomed to repeat it. As you touched on it, FSU's been straying away from the norm of what made them so successful.

Dude from Maine had offers from Ohio state, Alabama, USC, LSU,UF and FSU. Pretty comical that we have daily fap sessions over Dallas, Thomas, Njoku and Johnson.
Well, this will be determined on the field....we haven't beaten them in a long time....Let's say Miami woulda landed Mcfarland, Smith and Hollowman ...Is that still a good ratio? I'm all for getting sfla kids, but talent is talent....Teams are out there winning with kids from everywhere.
And the reason they won that NC was the QB from Alabama.
Just get me some good tough players who work hard and get better every day. There are plenty of those guys down here and plenty elsewhere who have been instrumental in all of our NCs.
There are also plenty of pvssy *** quitters down here. The culture has changed a little down here to more entitlements and coddling than it was before the proliferation of recruiting sites dedicated to sucking their booty juice.
It used to be mostly tough city kids like Bandy who work their asses off. It's slowly morphing into "top 28 lists" and "business decisions" and "I'm not getting enough love."
There are still Bandys and Joe Jacksons. We need to find them and sign them.

I think FSU has gone out of state for players more often than Miami over the years. Maybe UF, too.
I don't know what their long-term ratio has been, but it definitely seems like they've always been a bit heavier with out-of-state players.
Miami is the only championship-level team in Miami. Florida and FSU don't have that luxury in their backyards, though they've each done well in other areas, such as Tampa and Orlando over the years....

I agree with you DMoney that somewhere around 65% - 70% of recruits from FL is a good recipe for success. That's the ideal. I'm just hoping the staff doesn't stick to that as a hard number to hit every year.
Using FSU as an Example:
2011 - 22 of 29 (77%) were from FL. Their studs were from FL - Freeman, Benjamin, O'Leary, Jernigan and no one really from out of state.
2012 - 6 of 18 (33%) were from FL. Their studs were from out of state - Winston (AL), Edwards (TX), Goldman (DC), Darby (MD)
IMO - it ebbs and flows. FL and our backyard is always the priority, but I'm hoping "we need 65% to come from FL in every class" isn't a hard line we stick to every year. There needs to be flexibility.
Interesting that you think Gaynor could be an early contributor this season. Maybe if he was an EE I could see that, but I don't think he's polished enough to overcome being undersized at the moment. I think next year he'll be asked to step up for sure, but I don't see that happening this year.

However, there's **** good football players from all over the country & every single major program in D1 that is winning conference championships & competing for Natty's recruits nationally.
I don't believe there is such thing as too many OOS recruits, to me it's all about evaluation & development.
If you master the ability to properly evaluate a recruit, then properly develop once you get him in your program, it doesn't matter where he's from as long as he's a good football player.
Obviously, Florida has the best football players in the world, so it makes perfect sense to want a team full of Florida boys, but what's more important is hitting on the kids who are internally driven to be great, that's the most difficult thing to do.
Bama/Clemson/Oh St etc are not loading up on Florida players, they're hitting on the right ones... Meaning, they're getting the ones that they know will be the cream of the crop, they're not taking a bunch of South Fla jags.
Of course most of our players should be from Florida, but that's not more important than getting the right ones...
I mean UF has roster full of Florida kids & most of them turn out to be busts, because they don't hit on the right one.

Using that math we should have 1-2 OOS RB's on the team...........
D$, I really like this class. But I don't see it as a differentiator to pull us away from FSU. I agree with your position that we accomplish that by getting a haul of top flight South Florida kids. But we had A LOT of misses in South Florida, most of whom went to FSU, UF and Bama:
Jeudy, Grimes, Slaton, Cowan, Wilson, D Wright, ***an, Samuels, Davis, Henderson, Edwards, who were all higher on the board than Bandy, Dean and Smith. Specifically with the DBs, outside of Carter, who is a beast, and Dean, who we needed due to roster, I believe the staff would rather have had these other kids.
I also personally think we should have gone after Felix, Gamble and Miller.
Can't lose all these local guys to your rivals and say "mission accomplished".
