I agree with D-Money's assessment on FSU's potential downfall/decay. This is what happened to us in the early 2000's. Complacency starts to creep in and a lot of **** has been going on in Tally with their players. Florida players are a different breed, and starting to take your recruiting to a national level is what Coker started doing. Stay in Florida, keep it simple to a point. Sprinkle the class with national players.

I agree somewhat. I do agree that there's something to be said for S FL guys being a different breed, and there are plenty of examples of guys from S FL who were overlooked out of high school only to become stars. I absolutely agree that Miami should be following the pattern they are now with getting S FL kids primarily at the skill positions with a mix of out of state guys at other spots. I don't exactly agree that this is the only formula for building a winning team. Bama, while they've gotten certain key players from S FL, has largely recruited nationally for their teams in the past decade, and they've been as dominant as any team since the U in our glory years.

Being objective here to generate conversation. You can say they are declining because they are recruiting nationally all you want. But truth of the matter is that the teams that are winning big only have a few amount of south Florida players on their team. Look at bama they have had what?cooper; Ridley,Eddie Jackson, burgess-Becker and who else? Clemson has had Trayvon Mullen, yearagin and who else from south Florida? Ohio state joey bosa, Damon armette, and who else? These are teams in their championship years. Now I'm not saying Florida in particular the south Florida region isn't the most talented in the country. It most certainly is.. but good football is played outside of the region too. People must remember that.

Just on our team along most of our top ten players were from out of state. I don't think it's fair to say a south Florida guy has more "fight" or "hunger" then let's say a corn elder or David njoku

I will say in terms of rivalry type games, oos recruits don't feel the burn as well as instate guys . . . see kaaya as example

So...Ed Reed, Reggie Wayne and DJ Williams didn't feel the burn? Michigan vs OSU kids go against their home states play with a passion...Mich DE Taco Charlton is from Col, Ohio 15 min from OSU stadium, Charles Woodson the list goes on..OSU starting RB Mike Weber is from Michigan....Zeek is from STL.....FSU Akers, Laborn, Wilson etc...are no different talent is talent! It's all about the schools you attend more than anything else....social media allows coaches to see thousands of reels much quicker these days....coaches have relationships with HS coaches everywhere....It's not the same we gotta get with the times.....we haveta get some OOS kids like the rest of those winning teams. Sure you clean up in your own back yard which shouldn't be hard with easy access....Kids visit the campus a thousand times.... either coming or not....We keep getting burned every time ....that's why you still need to look around... it's evident sfla has been invaded by the entire country....like another poster said.. winning teams are doing with OOS kids...Miami needs to go after them as well.

the miami staff has hinted at this . . . you give that little bit extra when you play instate rivals if you from florida . . . of course you still get hyped etc if oos, but it means something more if your family has raised you hating another team that happens to be instate

I don't get that. Kaaya had 7 tds 1 int vs fsu 900 plus yards against them. He's one of the main reasons we were in it vs them the last 3 years

Yeah, it really comes down to talent evaluation. I mean look at Amari Cooper. Sure he was a stud, and I recall a lot of people around here wanting him. But there was also a solid contingent that said we would be ok with the guys we had that year. Turns out, Amari was head and shoulder better. Or he was developed better, but considering what he did as a freshman he was just that good. I think there needs to be a good mix of talent evaluation and development. I don't think Saban of Meyer are that much better evaluators of talent as much as they get the most out of the kids willing to work hard. I mean, look at Butch. I think he is great at both as well. Evaluation and development. I mean he had a nasty looking team before they all got kicked off the team before the season. I am interested to see if he pulls it off at a lower level school.

However, I think Richt is also better than average at both evaluation and development. Plus we have a few coaches that definitely get the most out of their kids.

I also think D$ at times reaches to prove his obvious point about the sheer number of talented players from SoFla. Because it never takes into account the number of busts as well. But for the U, and being where it is located. That super talented base should be where you do the majority of your work. Especially for the skill positions. Its about relationships with these local schools. So that when they have a sure fire stud, you can go get him. We have missed on so many, and honestly its getting worse before it gets better. I mean look at UF and Alabamas recent recruiting down here. They are doing way too well in south florida.

Get out of here with your well thought out and well written post

I dont think its their downfall, they are doing what every successful team is doing, we gotta be recruiting at that level, we getting there

I agree to an extent. I think you have to have the RIGHT So. Florida kids at the right positions. WR and DB especially, maybe LB too. Further, you have to make the correct evaluations regarding character, work ethic, etc. It seems to me that South Florida produces absolute studs and alarming busts both at very high rates.

This is what DMoney was alluding to.

He's had 2 picks his career against FSU. But, I see your point.

On the flip side.....it can hurt you when the other Instate team has more HS studs from the area use to dominating your less heralded recruits....Also, do you think Taco Charlton grew up hating Ohio state? The mind set changes once you attend the university and become a part of the team...You think Cooper cared about not growing up in the hills of bama? Lol

It has more to do with the core of your team. Miami gained dominance by recruiting Florida, particularly South Florida at a high level. Couple in that in the early 2000's we were where FSU is now - in discussion for title contention; where we started to recruit more nationally then focusing on our own state and that the culture started to become toxic it led to the decay of our program that DMoney is talking about here. Summary, they're straying from the recruiting practice that they used a couple of years ago to win just to gather stars. Character is an important attribute as well which is something you can't measure.

DeeJay Dallas taking some snaps as a third down back is growing on me...

Biggest quitter on FSU's team last year was South Florida cvntface traitor Matt Thomas. Take a look at his "effort" in the UNC game last year. Cuckbo should have thrown him off the team after seeing that tape.

That was embarrasing but he still had a **** of a year, he"ll be a top LB next year

So Fla should always be the majority of players and backbone of the team. The danger is assuming the a guy is a stud JUST because he played in So Fla.

The first 3 Miami players in this years NFL draft might be from out of state - Njoku (NJ), Elder (TN), and Kaaya (CA). Miami will also always need big time players from out of state

We have the advantage of being in the most talent rich area of the country - but I think it was a positive that Richt & staff looked at and got a good amount of talent from out of state.

Yeah doesn't make sense that they're declining because of signing 4 5* out of state recruits and several 4 stars...

Lately our sofl divas has been hard to deal with.

Excellent comparison of Miami vs. FSU. Again we beat them twice this year.

Line of the podcast:

They got a guy from Maine. He was whale watching before the FSU offer came in.

That's how great Miami teams were made. A strong concentration of Florida players, sprinkling in good blue-chip talents from around the country. Miami has never just focused on a class with Florida players.

I think Harley and Thomas house 5 WR screens this year.

Ohio State and Alabama don't have the word "Florida" in their names. Those of us who are older have seen the rise and fall of the great Florida dynasties. The surest signs are: (1) star recruits who come in expecting easy wins and get in trouble; (2) too many OOS recruits instead of Florida talent; and (3) bad quarterback play.

FSU hasn't suffered from bad QB play yet, so their decline has been steady instead of drastic. But the other signs are there in abundance. Only 40% of their class this year came from Florida. They signed a kid from Maine. When they won the championship, 60% of their starters and most of their role players came from Florida.

Richt said he is aiming for 2/3, or 66%, of his classes to come from Florida. This year we hit 70%. That's about right.
