Live: Blake James Press Conference (UPDATED w/video)

Live from the James press conference, here were some notes on his comments.

**Was surprised at Richt’s decision to retire, no push to remove Richt.

**Said it was no secret that offense had struggled and they agreed changes to that side of the ball needed to be made.

**Declined to comment on specific candidates. Hasn’t decided if there will be a search firm involved as of yet.

**New coach will have full reign of staff, but will be reminded about success of defense in place here. James believes UM had the best defense in the country last year.

**Search won’t focus on Miami ties, it will be about the best fit and best coach possible.

**James didn’t realize Travis Homer declared for the NFL due to hectic day. James feels he was an outstanding representative of the university and will have success.

**Feels like the bottom hasn’t fallen out after 10-0 and No. 2 ranking in 2017. Feels the talent is in place to make a run at the ACC Championship and National Title right now.

**Former players always have input. Everyone has different opinions on who to hire but it will be his decision to bring in who he feels is the best guy possible to lead the team.

He's a name brand in any living room is probably the main reason. Oh yeah,...the defense a couple years of now would probably be the least of our worries.

It all comes down to who he'd be able to hire on the offensive side of the ball,...and the energy of his staff to recruit.

There isin't some kinda magic pixie dust that the good coaches sprinkle during games and the ones that have failed do not. Doesn't work like that.

Leach,...Ryan,....haven't heard many (if any) better names thus far.

Thats how fried this guy is, this roster is not capable of beating Clemson at all we would get destroyed.....it needs to be built and the 2019 class being so bad has started the next HC out bad out the gate. IMO

Has never been a college coach so we have no idea how he would do recruiting = Risk
Would run a conservative offense = Negative
There are coaches running programs all over the country that we could hire that you would have a reasonable expectation of what offense they would run. How would the run the program. How they would recruit. Etc.
Why take so much risk just to hire a “name”

He was handcuffed with Golden. The school didn't want to deal with a football coaching change while searching for a new university president. Then you don't want to fire a guy in midseason because it means you've given up on the season, but I think his mind was made up. He kept saying that everything would be evaluated at the end of the season. After Golden's Masterpiece, he had the excuse he needed to get rid of him at that moment.

Actually he has 7+ yrs of experience as a college coach. If/When they do the proper vetting,...they can fairly easily come to a conclusion on his college game prowess.

He believes this roster can compete at a national level.....dude is cooked. What happened last year has fried the fans and people in the unathletic department. What most people saw yesterday in the 2 playoffs game were men vs boys.....we are not close to that at all

You’re right that our depth is not close at all to Clemson, Baga, or Oklahoma. We are there, talent wise, with ND, however. With the right staff, this could absolutely be an 11-2 or 10-3 team year one and build a CFP/National Championship contender over a couple of recruiting classes.

All we need to do is be aggressive and innovative. If this hire fits that mold, the wins and recruits will come.
