Live: Blake James Press Conference (UPDATED w/video)

Live from the James press conference, here were some notes on his comments.

**Was surprised at Richt’s decision to retire, no push to remove Richt.

**Said it was no secret that offense had struggled and they agreed changes to that side of the ball needed to be made.

**Declined to comment on specific candidates. Hasn’t decided if there will be a search firm involved as of yet.

**New coach will have full reign of staff, but will be reminded about success of defense in place here. James believes UM had the best defense in the country last year.

**Search won’t focus on Miami ties, it will be about the best fit and best coach possible.

**James didn’t realize Travis Homer declared for the NFL due to hectic day. James feels he was an outstanding representative of the university and will have success.

**Feels like the bottom hasn’t fallen out after 10-0 and No. 2 ranking in 2017. Feels the talent is in place to make a run at the ACC Championship and National Title right now.

**Former players always have input. Everyone has different opinions on who to hire but it will be his decision to bring in who he feels is the best guy possible to lead the team.

Exactly. It's amazing how dominant this D was, despite playing with an offense that couldn't score in a whorehouse. Statistically, Miami was among the nation's best in multiple categories.

No Urbie please. Yes, I know he’ll give a left lung for the football program but we need to go in either the direction of a hungry, up & coming HC that will energize the program. Or we go the route of Butch Davis, who knows South Florida and the U extremely well, and hope he’s still got @10 more great years left to take us to the promise land. All I want is someone who will reinvigorate the program off of what good things Richt did do when he was HC, albeit only a few items such as the IPF. Whomever we settle on, Blake best not ***** this up yet again or the ire of the fans will become squarely against him.

The defense rebounded well during the bowl game. If we had an offense worth a **** it would've been totally different, no doubt.

Just my opinion of When I think of elite CFB defenses I didn’t think of us, I understand the offense and feagles did no favors for them, but we also didn’t really play any elite offenses all year. We were good but not great, just my opinion.

Well, Michigan was one of those " elite defenses " you're referring too. And I believe the mighty Florida Gators PUNKED that elite defense the other day. No.

Agree about contention at least for next year. New coach will be inheriting an incredibly talented team.

Says all of the right things and at least he’s aware of the offense.. who isn’t... but rumor is the pressure of Richt being told to fire his son caused the decision to retire so credit him for that.

That being said... he just got bailed out for this poor hire of Richt. Now he needs to take advantage and utilize every resource he has to kill this hire. Can’t **** this one up.

Last thing... credit to Richt for doing what is best for the U. A year or 2 more of this and we may have been far from any potential recovery. We have the roster to win next year and rebound. 1 poor recruiting class won’t kill you. 2 or 3 in a row and you’re done.
