How about he ends up a TE and all this is pointless?

But seriously most BCS teams would kill to have our depth chart next year at DE, as far as young talent goes. What's the obsession with instant impact? These guys don't play this year. Not that it isn't needed but are here really a line of guys wanting to come to Miami you would take over McCord, Hamilton, AQM, Hoilett right now?

How many sacks did we have last year?

And how many sacks is a 2014 kid going to have this year, genius?

YOur an idiot ...we don't have the depth chart to take projects that have not played since 8th grade but I forgot you know it all
and that's why we are looking for some Juco help I guess

This is exactly whats wrong with our fans. No faith in anything. Talk **** about a stellar ATHLETE, because you apparently know more than the coaches that are paid to do this trade. Of course we are looking for some talent to come step in and play day 1, who the **** isn't? If the staff pulled the trigger on this kid this quickly, then they obviously see something that stands out in the crowd. 6'5" 220lb kid that can come off the edge AND jump out of the gym? Sign me up.

You're probably the same guy that burrows himself in his room to watch the games, and complains about the crowd. Get your head out of your *** dude.

Complain when we don't go after local kids.

Just saying:

McCord
Chick
Hamilton
Hoilett
AQM
Green
Gilbert

Smith committed. Thats a group most any team would kill to have. Do we need help? Of course! We just got a commitment from the best pass rusher in Dade. Can we do better. Yup.

Didn't Jason Pierre Paul not play football until very late in high school career too and he turned out alright. I don't have a problem taking a physical freak that could also build up some good will at a pipeline school.

We've had some kids who did not play in HS. I believe Scott Provin (OL starter in '80's) and maybe Kayne Farquharson did not play in HS. Both did play JUCO, though. What about Jimmy Graham? Did he play in HS?

Good group with lot of potential. Do need some DTs.

Absolutely. Kind of a bold move and one I like. High risk, high reward.

nedd to Pair him with a STACK END and Chad Thomas and were good to go.

Mike Smith is a LB..wont count him as a de especially not at 200-205. Smith will be just like Gabe Terry except he is ahead of Terry in develpment as Luke already has him @ Backer.

Go to 2:23 on the highlights and you could see him batting down the ball I love this staff these guys know how to identify and evaluate talent...this kid is raw but you can see the athleticism oozing out of this kid... put some good weight on him and coach him up and this kid will be a 12sack guy..... its great to be a Miami hurricane

The staff may be adjusting their recruiting techniques based on a few cycles of dealing with some unique challenges. They could be filling spots early to discourage local hyped recruits from viewing The U as a potential fallback, as in "take the offer while it lasts". At the least it seems clear that in the run-up to the next NSD the staff wants a very firm idea of who about 75% of their class will be made up of. No more surprises that significantly change the intermediate-term outlook of the roster.

i would hope they have a firm of idea of about 90-95%. They did the 75% last year going into the final month and it back fired. You want to have your class almost filled out with the exception of 2-3 high level kids announcing on NSD. The staff had to scramble to get Derrick Griffin and Corn Elder after NSD to close out the class. You can't rely on that every single recruiting season because we aren't going to get kids of that caliber after every single recruiting season because they either won't be available or they just won't be interested in Miami.

Whiffing on the amount of kids we did last year towards the end- Keith Bryant, Kirkland, Thomas, Collins, Bostwick- can't happen when you are relying on those kids to make your class. If those kids are "luxury" recruits then whatever, but you can't go into the final month having 4-5 guys who are at the top of your board at positions of need on your roster undecided like we did last year.

Surprised about this move.

1. Why not wait and actually watch the young man play a football game before offering.
2. If there is a position on the team that our coaches need to be perfect in their evaluations is the DL. It's the weakest area of the football team and we need players that can contribute right away, not three years from now. That can be reserved for OL...

1. Because if he blows up (which sounds like he might considering who's sniffing around) you're in a position of having to flip him instead of having him committed.

2. Our DL recruiting sucks, but we really aren't recruiting for next year with any player

I am gonna have to agree to disagree with alot of posters on here who I dig. And to be honest, this isnt solely about DJ. He is just getting caught in the crossfire. I will say though that history isnt on his side. The last DE I can remember that came in with his size, no notoriety, and only played ball one year or less and actually panned out from down here was Andre Wadsworth. We can name countless that came in just like him that just couldnt put on good weight and give us solid contributions. (Jim Wilson, John Square, Rico Williams come to mind.) AND Lyndon Trail who was way higher ranked them him.

And to the guy that said this is a 5 year plan..Is the 5 years starting this year? If so I understand this take. But if not, we are in year 3 and if we dont get to a BCS game this year or next year I dont care what anybody says the natives will be getting restless. Because we have a good core of talent on the roster and there is no excuse not to be in a BCS AT LEAST by next year. (Some say this year) My point is that we need more impact guys on the defensive side of the ball. ESPECIALLY across the Dline.

If this kid ends up a TE, then its a moot point. But thats not a good thing because that means he wasnt good enough to play here at DE which is what he is being recruited as at the moment. I like this kids potential. And he should pan out considering he is a great athlete and he can be servicable somewhere. But as my man Pusha T says we need to start puttin "some numbers on the board" here. Some guys who can step in right away on the defense line and help us out in the next two years. ESPECIALLY if Bond doesnt make it in. JMO.

-Bc if you wait, he ends up committing to Louisville or Arky, and then you have to waste time putting resources into a kid who you could have had just by offering.
- no HS DL can or should play immediately. If you want an immediate impact player, get a transfer or a JUCO (hmm waddya know we just got a 5th year senior DE from Wisky)

Your right on bro. These guys don't get it. This was a 3 year rebuilding plan from the dumpster fire Shannon left, then it turned into 5 years after the black cloud NCAA. Yes, we are the U but we are not the same U we once were. We may get back to that but we have to consistently win first.

Lots of things will change from now until February.
