I'm making a big deal out it? You have CIS and all the media showing Martell as the #1 QB. So excuse me if I question how he got to #1 over the unofficial Summer. So, you're telling me he got there based on weight room work because everything else is player organized and I can't see how coaches could evaluate player run activities to move a guy to 1st team.

I will roll with whomever wins the job. I just want it to be won on the field and for it to be clear an decisive.
Let me guess, you were a Ryan Collins guy

Everybody's going to trip out over Nelson being the starting LT & I get that because he's a TF...

But I may be the only one who feels this way but Herbert is a big time concern for me at RT & yall know I'm the last one to worry... But he's never been good at dealing with speed rushers ever since he was in HS at AH, that was always his weakness.

Not saying he can't or won't improve, just saying everybody will focus on Zion but Herbert IMO is the one we need to see play well & anchor down that RT if he's the starter.

And nah I'm not panicking or overreacting, just simply saying that's something to keep an eye on as one of the question marks for the season.
I’m much more worried about him than Zion. Just seeing Zion work yesterday kinda showed why he’s so hyped. He has DB feet at tackle. Needs to get stronger for sure but he’s so quick that no one will just beat him of the edge. I rather my tackle get beat with the bull rush than just straight off the line because straight off the line gives the qb less time to react.

I recall he had a career type game against American Heritage in his HS championship. That AH team was full of d1 caliber players. Kid can play.
Few was solid in HS always thought he would eventually get his scholarship

Sign that dude and watch him have a nice NFL career. I remember him abusing some really hyped kids in HS. Dopey fans don’t think he can play because he’s white and came in as a walk on.
Completely agree with this! there was a certain guy who caught a TD for Clemson to win them a title who started out as a WO as well..

Where is the alternative for Herbert then? Because Campbell looked far worse in the spring game and got whipped by the speed rush too. Hopefully herbert takes that next step. If he doesn’t , assuming Nelson starts at left tackle we can possibly move scaife to right tackle and put Cleveland reed as the starting right guard
I think it’s smart to play Scaife at guard. Scaife/Donaldson is one of the best guard combos in the country. Outside you have Nelson, Campbell, Herbert, Hillery, ElGammal. 2 of those guys have to step up and take that job man enough babying around. They are all much better suited to play tackle than Scaife is and that was evident yesterday by just watching them stand next to each other.

So, your telling me every position was decided that way or just QB?

Amazing how all the other positions were the guys we expected to start because they earned it over the Summer right? Where's the 2nd and 3rd team guys rolling with the ones? None of them worked any harder than the other guys at their position?

Seriously, you are one slapdick of a porster.

It just don't get it. How has Martell earned the right to be #1 on day 1 of Fall camp? He surely didn't do it in the Spring. I'm not buying Manny's interview where he said Tate's Summer workouts have put him in this position. You can't earn anything in Summer workouts. They're not even official (No coaching). Summer workouts are to prepare you for Fall camp where you are to showcase the improvements you made over the Summer. It's pretty clear to me, he wants Martell to be the starting QB. And the entire depth chart for every position was based on Summer workouts? Right?

I just want there to be a real competition and for it to be fare.
Summer workouts are official for sure. Not sure what you’re talking about. Players have workouts, meetings and even time with position coaches in the summer. The first day rotation was based on those.

They are playing against an “sec front”. Just think about it, the second team dline consisted of these guys. That’s lethal and better than most power 5 starters. **** it might be better than our starters on the dline. If we are talking talent this group possibly has 4 of our 6 most talented dline players in it.
De Trevon hill
Dt Nesta silvera
Dt chigozie nnorokua
De greg Rousseau/Harvey
The argument of an SEC front pertains to weight more than talent. Florida is a much heavier team in the trenches because in that conference they run the ball 40 times a game.

Osborn and Pope news gets me excited.

We know what Thomas can do and we also know Osborn is qualified but still we see enough transfers that get here and can’t make it happen.

Osborn, Thomas, and Pope sounds good.

That’s where he’s better suited to play.
Right and he wasn’t exactly good at OT either he just wasn’t as bad as the rest. If he’s not there this year I think that’s a good sign.

He wasn’t that great for sure. Rivals did an analytical breakdown of him and he was still below average at right tackle just better than anything else we had. He was also a freshman but I’m not sure why we aren’t hyping him up so much at tackle. I think he’s a guard and he can be an all American guard and just a solid tackle. Gotta find 2 other guys.

They can't coach workouts.
Not on field workout but they can observe. The coaches offices overlook the IPF. also, they are coaches in the weight room and in organized training activities. Also position coaches get a limited amount of time with them per week and I’m sure that time was used. So there are things the coaches can use to determine who did best in the summer.

Don’t get me wrong I think he’s going to leave here a great player.

Just yet another example of one of our linemen trying to make up for a lack of recruiting
