Few was solid in HS always thought he would eventually get his scholarship

I think he may have had some Lacrosse offers but his list of schools were basically the military academies. But I could envision an Edelman type guy in the NFL. Seems like a very disciplined kid that's coachable, with good work ethic, and football smarts.

Where is the alternative for Herbert then? Because Campbell looked far worse in the spring game and got whipped by the speed rush too. Hopefully herbert takes that next step. If he doesn’t , assuming Nelson starts at left tackle we can possibly move scaife to right tackle and put Cleveland reed as the starting right guard

Scaife will be the rt unless somebody makes a huge jump. Hebert can’t block speed and he could get a qb killed.

Zion might get overwhelmed physically at times , especially with the run, but he should be ok against speed guys.

Having the guys who had “the best offseason” taking reps with the 1s at an open position is such a generic, frequent occurrence for fall and spring camps that I struggle to know if you’ve paid close attention before this year. It happens *everywhere*, and happened under Richt too.

At this point man it’s your personal bias if you’re reading a conspiracy into it. Manny said no one is leading. Someone has to take the first reps of the fall.

Btw who’s in the black jerseys this week? I can’t wait for the update , thanks

Chik was in black, along with Figueroa and Blue.

Tracey Howard and Coley were in green.

Orange was Mike James, on a stationary bike.

Any word on Derosier or the nameless gigantic guy at practice with the coaches ?

If Scaife stays at OG, it means Reed must really not be good. Because we are grasping for OTs and Scaife would easily help solve that issue by holding down one side, at least to a basic level of competence.
I’m not sure it means that as much as it might mean we’re looking for the right combo right now.

I think they’d prefer to keep Scaife at G because he’s a killer there. They’d prefer someone to step up at that RT position, but I’m not sure it’ll be Herbert. I’ve never been all that impressed with him.

If not Reed at G then find someone else. With all the G depth we have if Barry is any good he should be able to get something out of one of those guys.

I'm pretty sure Few is in UM Air Force ROTC program rn, meaning if he graduated and finishes the program he will commission into the Air Force as an Officer

Well, I hope Uncle Sam won’t mind waiting on him to complete his NFL career first.

I'm at a loss on this situation. How can one of Herbert, Hillery, Reed, or Campbell not cut it at either the guard or tackle spot? I mean, Kennedy was second-string guard last night. How is that possible? Anyone criticizing him better have scathing comments about the other guys who have zero excuse. Not even going to mention Dykstra or G Brown, who haven't even earned the right to be called a JAG.

Wish Boulware would have stayed. That was a huge lose/lose for both him and the program. But I think Traore passes them all up and steps in as our starting guard like Boulware did last season.

For sure, someone needs to solidify that tackle spot if Zion at LT. We play with multiple TEs can always work on chipping and assisting on the back end. But we can't have two tackles that need it.

That's ok.

This is Miami.

We've had lots of walk-ons who have produced:

Carlos Huerta - AA and probably the best kicker ever at Miami.

Santana Moss - no need to elaborate here.

Joaquin Gonzalez - 2-time AA at RT.

Javon Nanton - undersized, but solid DE - maybe during the Shannon years - led the team in sacks 1 year

The FB during the '83 championship game - from Immokalee.

And some others.

If he outplays most of the other WRs, he'll be in the rotation.

Hard to overcome the stigma or have coaches that don’t care about it. If he was a 4.4 guy instead of likely a high 4.5-4.6 ish in high school then he could’ve gone anywhere he wanted on scholarship from the start

We don’t know if they can cut it or not. It’s literally day 2 of camp without pads. Let’s see how the guys do when pads come on

Trevon Hill and Garvin will be the best development to get Zion ready for Florida.

Trevon dominated Clemson OL last year so I'm fine with Zion struggling day 1 with him. As long as there's steady improvement from now til August 24

I dont have an issue with the practice lineup or looking at combos. I’m just looking ahead to the game ready lineup.

I agree Scaife inside would be great if we had competent tackles. I am just concerned we have zero proven tackles we can count on, so reducing uncertainty there would help a lot. I figure scaife is easily one of our two best tackles. Reed should be more capable at Guard than Nelson as a true frosh at OT. Maybe one of Hillery, Herbert or Campbell can handle RT. Let’s hope.
