Important to have good relationships with local HS coaches. 2 commits from the 305/786/954/754/561 and 9 from out of state won't do it.

:ohlord:

he real mad. Too bad almost none of the good Dade/Broward players have decided yet

No I think it is a matter of Golden having an opening on his staff and Cristobal being a trophy fish out there...you make room on your boat and worry about the rest later.

If Carroll does with PD, waters and possibly coley what he did at the end of the season with our TE's I'm excited for what happens starting next year.

Kareem Brown was our last productive DT...imagine that. AG is a smart man for bringing him and Mario on board.

Having Mario back will ensure us that we lock down the State of Miami in recruiting,,,, Al Golden is God.

Dayum, Coach Golden just locked the state of Miami and swallowed the key. Next bet thing to actually hiring someone with 'NFL Experience'

I guess the NFL guys didnt want to come. I like the hire though

We all assumed he was going after an NFL guy, doesn't mean it was true though.

True. Guys make assumptions based off of time elapsed and then it becomes gospel. Maybe we were waiting on Mario. Mario might have wanted to see if he could get a good HC gig prior to accepting our offer.

This is a monster hire if it's legit. This dude will be closing like Mario Mercado and Rick Ferrazza.

Another thing to look at that I don't think can be overstated at this point. This is yet another instance that shows the organizational skills of Golden. 3 years in, I'm starting to understand why Kehoe said that he's a combination of Jimmy and Howard. No, he hasn't had anywhere near that level of success, but he is the beautiful combination of a talent evaluator, developer, while also having the managerial/corporate skills that can move a program forward.

Hot **** this just feels right.

WE BACK!!!

I feel bad for Jimbob. Pretty sure the State of Miami is now on lockdown.

What makes you think he can coach wr's? How long do you think he'll stay?

People are already missing is that Fisch was an NFL WRs coach. It's not hard to imagine he creates the framework to fit within his system.

I think Carroll will be "coached up" and at least be adequate at the position. I'd love to have a guy with a better track record there, but our biggest problem right now is roster reconstruction, and this move helps in that regard.

Cristobal coming home to UM

Mario Cristobal will still be coaching in Miami in 2013 after all. The former Miami offensive lineman, who transformed FIU from being the biggest mess in FBS football into one that went to back-to-back bowl games within five seasons of his arrival only to be fired last month due to friction with his AD Pete Garcia, is returning home to UM as the Hurricanes new Associate Head Coach and will also coach tight ends, a source told CBSSports.com Thursday morning.

The move is a key addition for UM coach Al Golden since Cristobal is as plugged into the dynamics of the South Florida recruiting scene as any coach in the country. He's also been lauded for his energy and toughness.

NFL offensive tackle Eric Winston, who played for Cristobal at UM, immediate praised the hire as soon as word got out. Asked what makes Cristobal such a great coach beyond just being a top recruiter, Winston told CBSSports.com, "Intensity. Mario is intense about every day, every practice, every rep."

Last month, UM lost WR coach George McDonald, considered by Cane insiders as one of Golden's top assistants. McDonald was hired at Arkansas.

Cristobal is bypassing opportunities to be an offensive coordinator at an major conference program as well as assistant offers from NFL teams to return to UM, according to multiple sources.

The 42-year-old Cristobal's record in six seasons at FIU was 27-47.

Great move by AG...this is an absolutely fantastic hire.

In the short term it's going to be a real coup for recruiting...in the long term we may have our eventual successor lined up who now has HC experience and will continue to learn and grow alongside AG.

This is freaking awesome news.

Wow

Golden was never looking at a NFL coach. He was waiting to see if Mario took an NFL gig once the shuffling was done.

We all seem to agree that Golden is showing he has an eye for talent, so that doesn't just stop at players. Lots of mixed things said about BC over the last year or so but he's Pete Carroll's son and has worked side by side with Golden and Fisch for a while now. If he is getting set up for a bigger future, I don't see why that isn't viewed as a great thing.

Now if Golden leaves in the next couple of years, I think we now know who will replace him.
