Roster is reaching early 2000’s level depth. The rest of this decade and beyond is gonna make all the Miami fans proud who stuck it out through some dark times.
Fair, but let me amend. We haven’t seen superstars EMERGE as of yet. Doesn’t mean we don’t have them. Most guys don’t come in as stars. No one anticipated 2-star Reed to be a HoF. I think we have potential stars in guys like Fitz, Dunnigan, etc. Fitz has already made big plays in a part-time role. Excited to see what he can do as a full-time starter. I think OJ and Lucas can take that next step in their second year of Heatherman’s system and more development. I think the potential is there. Just need guys to step into that opportunity.

Spot on. Not sure it’s littered with future 1st round picks and potential NFL Hall of Famers

I get the optimism but it’s all relative right? Those early 2000s rosters are over but I also get the direction the post was going

Facts plus we have Jalen Waters, Brodie Jennings, Chris Ewald, Camden Portis and Jontavious Wyman coming up plus the 2027 kids Donte Wright, Ai King Hall and Sherrod Gourdine. Then at Safety we have Bryce Fitzgerald and Zecheriah Poyser plus Omar Thornton and JJ Dunnigan. Plus 2027 kids like Jaylen Jones and Andre Hyppolite. Brother this shyz getting ready to be a No Fly Zone!
Another beautiful thing about this is if (well not if but when) the DL creates havoc up front, that could lead to some errant throws and two things will happen, pics and pic6s.

I meant to get to that point in my post but it was late. I agree 💯

The main reason I think OJ is a top-10 pick is that you almost never see a cornerback line up against the best receiver in the nation JJ and tell the offensive coordinator, "Come at me," over and over again. Your confidence has to be enormous to welcome that challenge and keep backing it up.

Cut from the right cloth! JJ and OJ were teammates on that Miami gardens Ravens team and have played against each other in HS. He was ready to prove himself on the biggest stages!! Straight dawg mentality.

Lucas is the clearcut CB1 on the Team, when returning from that BS targeting suspension vs Ole ****.... Lucas presence limited Indiana's Passing attack in the 2nd half.
Lucas and OJ are both extremely important to this secondary and losing Lucas the 1st half was a bitter pill to swallow. The fact is we needed all hands on deck vs Indiana and Lucas was particularly important to our success on defense that night as OJ was still battling the effects of a leg injury sustained vs Ole ****. I think OJ is a more polished CB at this particular point in time but Lucas has tremendous ability which he certainly showed that night in the title game. If Lucas becomes more consistent and takes the next step in his development then he could become an elite CB.

Our secondary played their asses off last year but we were really starting to wear down by the end of the year. Our offense wasn’t doing the defense any favors most of the year and we didn’t have the depth yet. Guys were dropping like flies after plays and the Lucas thing was devastating

We should be able to keep these guys fresh this year

I believe a big factor for OJ & Demari’s health will be how fresh we are able to keep them throughout the season with rotations. We have the depth we need them close to 100% as the season turns into a championship run.

They can talk all they want about Notre Dame’s secondary but no team in America has the depth and overall talent we have in that room. Our 4th-5th corners off the bench would start for 90% of Power 4 teams.
OJ
Ethan
Lucas
Demari
Antione

Already 5 deep with players with experience and talent. Doesn’t even count the talented youngsters we have developing in their wing.
I want to see another team in America that can rotate their 2 starting corners and not lose anything.

People are down on O’Conner the same way they were down on OJ after the Syracuse game

Ethan played like a dawg last year and he’s still young. The competition is insane. Antoine, Damari etc

I especially loved his willingness to play the run and be super aggressive

I’m a fan

Im a huge fan of Ethan! Canes fans forget he was our most consistent corner in 2025. They like the think negatively about him cause of the dropped INT vs Ole Miss and the perfect back shoulder footballs vs Indiana. He is the next player in the Corner room review series so be on the lookout for it next week!

He’s got the right mentality for corner. Just a **** talking not scared of anyone type mentality

OJ seems a little more quiet but has the same type of mentality. You’re gonna know they’re there types and I love that from DBs

Poyser and Thornton back there as well make people think twice when they get the ball we needed to make up for losing Thomas and Scott in that regard

Yeah he plays with that attitude and is not shy about talking trash. My fav thing about 24 is how he makes plays and lets it be known.

All i know is I might not run that post or dig full speed knowing that Thorton and Poyser are lurking in the middle 😭

Overall I think the defense should be a top 5 unit.

Yeah Ethan played that much for a reason. It’s because he can ball. And he’s young so he’s only gonna get better. I could see Damari Brown playing some nickel just to get him on the field. Great coverage guy and he will hit you. I think this is the year he finally stays healthy and makes a big impact.

What people aren’t realizing is, our offense is gonna be so good that a lot of teams are gonna be playing catch-up by the 3rd quarter. When they abandon the run game and just keep passing over and over, our edge rushers will tee off and the opposing QB is gonna throw some picks. It’s hard to throw when you’re on your ***.

There’s not a corner in college football that could have defended some of the throws Mendoza made in that game. That kid has nothing to hang his head about. He played the ball as well as humanely possible. Against 99% of other QB’s, that’s a PBU or a pick six.

Exactly but fans just can’t let it go or think rationally because it was the national championship game. Mendoza went #1 overall for that elite ball placement lol
