Coach Dawson's Tempo Is leading to Easy Points

Dawson is not a tempo guy in the Lashlee/Babers mold. We're gonna run 65-70 plays per game. As has been stated, where you see him use tempo is most often right after a big gain he'll speed it up to try and catch the D napping. The word I keep coming back to with Dawson's offense is "thoughtful." All of his concepts just make so much sense and are so consistent. It's refreshing.

Dawson's Situational Use of Tempo

Yesterday we looked over how Coach Dawson's is infusing his Air-Raid passing concepts into diverse formations to make it hard on defenses. This is not the only way he puts pressure on the backend as his tempo will challenge the eye disipline of Defensive Backs. Watch the video above to show how we ran the same play twice in one drive which allowed our players to play fast & score an over the top TD when Bethune was deploying 3 Safties.

Trips right we have X running a deep crosser with brashard Smith on the post route. The safety correctly got depth to be over top of the post route. X cooked his mans for a big gain.

This is where Coach Dawson keeping the offense simplistic pays off, running the same play in the same drive allows our guys to just line up and play fast. The tempo in real time matters as in less than a minute has passed since the middle Saftey saw X cross his face. This time he takes the bait and sits on the crosser which TVD was waiting on to hit brashard over the top.

The tempo and simplicity of the offense to our players gives us an advantage every game and will continue to test back end defenders eye discipline.

Great stuff my man. So far, Dawson is everything I hoped he would be. Go Canes 🏈

He turns it on and off. He rolls with the momentum of the game. I like that more than straight fast all 60 minutes which wears the D out.

The offense is doing whatever it wants, whenever it wants. Dawson adds in pace when he sees the opportunity but is perfectly content steamrolling people and shortening the game

The defense is making due with some glaring deficiencies and key injuries

Keep hearing people say we haven’t played anyone but that’s something we will find out at the end of the season when things shake out.

Ohio is looking like a solid team with a big win over Cincinnati on their resume on the road. Temple has some good athletes and will play SMU later this year. Let’s revisit that.

The few times we have gone up-tempo has been a masterclass

That drive to end the 1H against got TrumpyCane's stuffing rock hard, was very impressive

Did the same to end 1H against Bethune

Dawson knows what he is doing

Everyone is doing a little tempo since the games are shorter. Honestly I wish we'd do tempo all the time. Especially in the 1st quarter where we seem to only have 2 drives.

Gattis was like “ I think this time this drag route to Mallory works and he won’t get killed“.
If I have three receivers all in the same place, it will triple the odds of completing the pass!

I'm not as worried about coordinators leaving for head coaching positions now as I was under previous regimes. For one, we can actually afford to pay them now. Secondly, Mario's job stability is pretty rock solid, he's not going to get fired any time soon and take the coordinators down with him. Dawson isn't going to leave to take a G5 head coaching job. It's not like Rhett Lashlee who knew Manny's days were numbered and took the SMU job with the quickness. Dawson could parlay a 4 or 5 year role here into a legit P5 position if he wanted to. Or he could stay on as OC, make some very nice coin, live in Miami and compete for titles. I think he knows he's got a pretty good situation here. Mario is letting him do his thing and it's paying off for both of them.

not to take away from dawson, because there are plenty of coaches that waste good personnel. but it's also very clear that our massively upgraded OL play has freed up dawson to basically call the game however he wants it. he's said as much during interviews. if you can't trust the guys up front to give the QB some time, all of a sudden you're calling quick game or screens when you could be dialing up a shot play. or you have to max protect every time you want to take a shot, and that takes options off the table. or you're in 3rd and long all day because your run game isn't going anywhere. impossible to overstate how big a deal the OL play thus far has been- AND glad we hired an aggressive, smart coordinator who knows what to do with it.

Almost forgot about that honestly

52 seconds left or so correct?

Gotta sell the guy on winning a national championship before he departs. And pay him.
Or sell him on the OL. As long as he stays here with Mario you know the OL will always be strong. What would the offense be without it? Dawson needed Mario same way Mario needed him. Dawson isn’t dumb. He has seen this offense multiple times behind multiple OLs. He ain’t seen it like this.

I'm glad he's running my NCAA14 offense to perfection. Handed the keys off to my young progeny after winning 60 titles and it isn't a Brian Ferentz situation. Feels good.

Break in case of emergency...4th and short, the Read Option (aka the original tush push)...and when its 4th and anything, Four Verts.

If you know, you know.

Oxford (OH) is a contender to win the MAC...that was a good win.
Texas 8&4 won't look like a good win by season's end, Wiegman is out and Jimbo is flailing...but it was a very good win at the time.

The reality is, we won't get any real hype until we go beat UNC and Clemson (down-cycled program, currently getting jobbed out to other teams getting a push...hope that'll be us)...and then we will have all eyes on us versus Florida State in the Game of the Year in November.

We just waiting in the bushes rn...not sure the nation really knows whats going on down here. 2017...but its an actual good, well assembled, balanced team, not one that is winning on luck and whatnot. We got dudes and guys that know how to motivate and call a game. Weird to see after 20 years.
