Notre Dame announced that redshirt freshman CJ Carr will be the starting quarterback for the opener against Miami.

The 6'3, 210-pound Carr is the grandson of famed Michigan coach Lloyd Carr. The Saline (Mich.) High product was ranked as the #6 quarterback out of high school and is considered more of a pocket passer than his primary competitor at QB, Kenny Minchey. He has yet to throw a pass in a college game.

Multiple reports indicated previously that Minchey was the favorite for the job, as Irish offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock had prior success with dual-threat QBs like Desmond Ridder, Jayden Daniels and Riley Leonard.

Minchey must be Brucie from Longest Yard bad as a passer because that's who they wanted to start. Carr is a statue.

This reminds me of 2017 when they had Wimbush and Book. One ran and one passed better.

This time they are starting the passer instead of the runner.

Carr doesnt fit what Dembrock wants...

Another bet placed on the Canes bigly!!!!

I didn’t care either way but preferred Carr because I’ve been told he was less of a threat running. But it really doesn’t matter, this kid has a few bad drives or turnovers (hopefully) and we will see both at some point in the game.
