Dedicating time to talking about a recruit from 20 years ago who never panned out to be anything.

And people say Miami fans are stuck in the past.

To be fair, this isn't some random recruit. Those recruiting diaries changed how people across the country viewed recruiting and really brought to light what was going on during thee visits. 17 years later, people still bring up that recruitment.

What Manny wrote is pretty historically significant when it comes to understanding the development of recruiting into a year round news story. Thinking it’s just “talking about a recruit from 20 years ago” really downplays how huge the story was as well as how it incited a major shift in how people view recruiting and consume recruiting news.

I encourage you to watch the video because I’m sure you’ll learn something!

I get this take but I found the conversation interesting and listened the whole way through. They could’ve jawed about the upcoming season or recruiting, but there’s little to add to those conversations right now. I felt like I learned something, I was not aware how impactful those diaries were.

the willie diary always reminds me of the chris rainey stuff

Its well known around here Rainey was getting cash handshakes and stand ins for ACT/SAT testing. They weren't even trying to hide it. Lakeland High has a cult like following. Similar to sec schools. If you are a superstar on Lakelands football team, you are a GAWD in the city

One of the best High school football players to come out of south Florida- EVER
His Carol City Highlights on YOUTUBE are from another world. @305407cane ....I've told this story before....I was close friends with Bill Gierke, an Orlando HS Coaching Legend (till this day)...between him and his brother Skip, they've coached, Sapp...Horace Copeland...Kenard Lang...Searcy...Merriweather....etc....Bill's Edgewater team lost to WWs Carol City team for the State Championship...(WW Broke Edgewater QBs arm second play of the game) Bill told me that for the 1st time in his HS coaching career, that no matter how he adjusted, he had absolutely no answer for Willie during the game. He said he'd never seen anything like it. He was completely dumbfounded....

Of course I saw Sean play in HS....and my list was defensively....Sean was more renowned as a RB in HS....But Freddie Miles is the best RB that ever played in Dade...Period...Willie is the best LBer to come outta Dade...

I stand corrected. Thank you. Guys like Jimmy Murphy and such having much better college careers confused me momentarily. I’m straight now.

Friend, please don’t mention WW in the same breath as Derrick Thomas.
Stop it...I saw both play....Willie was better...Wayyy more ferocious...and Webster was every bit as good as Derrick in HS....400+ Tackles at MNW....with 200 of them being decleaters..

Exactly. I’ve heard the stories of WW and saw the YouTube hL. He was a freak and should’ve been rushing the passer at Miami. It’s like if someone tried to turn jadaveon clowney into a 4/3 linebacker instead of having his hand in the dirt..I get it in theory but it makes no sense. With a guy like that u just want them to play as fast as possible..now the off the field **** idk about
