Not that it is likely all that important, but more so for my own curiosity... what happens to his NIL? I assume that the contract had clauses about if you quit, do something criminal, etc that they dont have to pay you any more and in some cases might be able to claw back money. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a clause about upholding the team standard but also guessing that something like that is nebulous and if his NIL was not too large (which I don't think it was), Miami just eats it.

How do players typically get paid NIL by the schools? Do they get it all upfront? A sum up front then periodically (monthly, per game) after?
I dont know anything but i would assume its not a lump sum paid up front. Or, if it is, there is probably stipulations when you have to pay some of it back.

The Sorsby situation from TT, I recall reading they weren't making him pay it back, but they didnt pay him the full $5M up front either.

My guess is these players are getting a paycheck every few weeks.

Like any sports contract they get a % up front like a signing bonus and the rest is given out in payments + maybe potential incentives too

So the standard can be reduced if we are desperate for talent?

It was a very poor evaluation and take by Mario and staff. West Virginia fans warned us.

It’s okay Mario is not perfect but he is **** good.
First time something like this has happened with a transfer and we are questioning the standard. Lmao
And on top of that Mario isn’t lowering the standard for anyone. Lowe could’ve been a huge contributor this season and was told to kick rocks because he thought he was bigger than the program.

As soon as we let players believe they’re bigger than the program we get what we had for the least 20 years.

A year or so ago incentives weren’t allowed in NIL deals but the way things change who knows

Perhaps there’s someone here that’s a lawyer?

Shot in the dark I know

Is this a “You’re fired…you can’t fire me ‘cuz I quit” situation?

Reason I ask is that the news about Vaughn being gone started circulating about 5 days ago. A dismissal triggers rumors almost immediately. If he was dismissed 5 days ago why wait so long to announce it? Unless he was moping and stopped practicing about 5 days ago (thus leading to the initial rumors) and then MC finally got fed up and told him to kick rocks this weekend.

In any event, it sounds like the team is better off without Cam around. Adelante.

I wouldn't be surprised if incentives weren't allowed. I know they're obligated to make appearances and probably other stuff too we don't even hear about.

Last year players at least one player was getting paid monthly. $30k a month was for a 4 star we had that got PT. Sounded like he didnt get paid during the summer for whatever reason. I'm assuming the payments just stop

Feels likely that Vaughn was buried on the depth chart and that starting affecting his attitude and approach. Probably better ways to handle it, but can't blame the kid for wanting out when he is that far down on the depth chart. Only so much eligibility left.

Can't avoid the fact that talented players often have big egos. It's the cost of doing business. You never know when a kid can't handle competition or the pressures of a big time program.

Not surprised. Lake hinted that “buy in” was an issue for Vaughn. I haven’t heard him say that about anyone else.

Didn’t he also have a shaky reputation amongst the hillbilly WVU fanbase?

look did getting barkate caught him off guard? yes. but I haven't heard much about him since he's been here. I also think Upshaw has surprised people and really worked hard to get better. Moore is always gonna play when healthy because the staff loves him.

only thing we promise is to cut the check on time ... playing time is a different matter
