BREAKING: Rosier named starter

Miami announced this morning that Malik Rosier will be the starting quarterback for the opener against Bethune-Cookman.

Rosier, the redshirt junior, beat out redshirt sophomore Evan Shirreffs and staved off freshman competitor N'Kosi Perry. Rosier is 1-0 as a starter at Miami, defeating Duke back in 2015 when Brad Kaaya was put with a concussion.

Rosier came to Miami as a three-star recruit in the 2014 class from Faith Academy HS in Mobile, Alabama. He truly took control of the quarterback race over the two weeks with two good scrimmages, and most importantly improved accuracy.

Sources close to the situation say that although Rosier is the starter, Richt will not shy away from working another quarterback into the mix as well.

I'm just glad the guy whose been here three months didn't get the keys to the whip.. hopefully he redshirts and comes ready for next year.

I just hope he's more like Russell Wilson than RG III. Needs to know when to slide or go out of bounds and not take on much bigger dudes unless of course the game is on the line...

On a side note: I have Perry starting in my Dynasty.

I have never, for one second ,thought to compare Rosier with Russel Wilson but now that you mention it...you may be unto something. We can only hope .

if malik kills it this year and evan is #2 , I'm assuming Evan will get the garbage time pt and kosi might redshirt this year, next year malik may keep his job so it's possible we may not see kosi start until his rs soph year??

I said from the jump if no one separated themselves Richt would go with Perry. Rosier clearly did so and I have no problem admitting I was wrong. Very happy for Rosier. I also feel Perry helped push the upperclassmen. Win win all around. Now its time to go out and do it when it counts. Lets go Canes!

Just protect the **** ball and get it to our play makers. He doesn't have to be a hero. He has some wheels so we should see more first downs and broken plays work out

Still confused on how choosing Rosier is a polarizing decision.

1. Rosier never swayed from his commitment to staying with Miami, even when the odds were against him during Spring practice
2. He flat out WON the job - it's not like it was handed to him because we have no other options; Shirreff proved to be stiff competition
3. He's a competitor, a team leader and is well respected by both coaches and his teammates

Lastly - I really hope people understand that Rosier's job isn't to be an elite-level QB. He needs to be a game manager, get the ball to his weapons and not turn the ball over. That's it. With this defense he merely needs to run the RPO effectively and keep feeding the ball to his play makers.
