PLANTATION, Fla. -- Last week, Florida State extended an offer to South Plantation athlete John Franklin, who quickly committed to the Seminoles.

Franklin happens to be a teammate and friend of the highly sought after running back Alex Collins. “That’s what we started from the beginning when we both weren’t getting recruited when it first started, when it first began, when we first met each other we wanted to get that big division one offer,” Collins said talking about Franklin and himself. “I’m so thankful and glad he got his first big division one offer. You know he committed and everything and I’m proud of him and I’m excited he got that offer.” Collins is currently committed to Miami and has been since January. However, the Seminoles have come on strong in recent months, along with Wisconsin and late effort from Florida. The obvious question is: Does Franklin’s commitment affect Collins?“It will feel good going to college with someone that I’m really close to,” Collins explained. “We’ve always talked about going to the same college together and everything. Ultimately it’s where I’m going, it’s where I am most comfortable where I can see myself going. “You know down the road if we end up at the same place, it will be even better. I’ll know someone, we’ll be in the same grade, we’ll both be freshmen. It will feel really good to go together with him, but ultimately if I see myself succeeding somewhere else, then that’s where I’ll take it.” Would the commitment of Franklin at least put the Seminoles in the driver’s seat for Collins?“You know, I don’t necessarily know how to put that,” he said. “You know I’m still looking at recruiting and the recruiting process the same. I’m still interested in all three schools. It’s just makes it harder on me to make my decision.” Collins has maintain he has kept Miami, the team he still claims to be committed to, up to date on all of the details of his recruitment, including letting them know beforehand of his visits to Wisconsin and Florida State. However, the Hurricanes seem to wondering what the four-star prospect is feeling currently. “Basically, they try to find out where I stand and everything. You know I’m still committed to Miami, I just haven’t been thinking recruiting lately. I’ve been focused on football now, you know we just got a big win.” While it looks like a Miami-Florida State battle, Collins maintains the Badgers are still in the mix. Wisconsin sent head coach Bret Bielema and area recruiter Charlie Partridge to his game Friday night. “It’s pretty exciting seeing him on the sideline in the red and everything. When I’m out there I completely forget, I zone everything out. I make a big run and I look and I just impressed a college head coach...Seeing it kind of encouraged me to play even harder.” As the highly contested battle to secure the nation’s No. 37 prospect according to 247Sports continues, maybe Collins and Franklin playing together in college becomes a reality, maybe the school that has held his pledge for nearly ten month keeps him or maybe the out-of-state program shocks them all. Time will tell.

I never post, but I heard on ATL sports radio that Auburn is going to fire their coach and Jimbo will be taking the job. It will be anounced in December after the SEC championship. If that happens, the new FSU coach may revoke Franklin's offer. Collins will be available again. If Jimbo stays at FSU, Collins is gone. The coaches should be able to figure out by now what he's going to do. I say cut him loose and evaluate Daryl Chestnut, Tarean Folston or A.J. Turman. Running Backs come a dime a dozen. It's not like QBs or DTs.
