Miami continued to fortify its pitching depth with the addition of Robert Evans of Georgia State. A scouting report on Evans, and what he brings to the Hurricanes, is below:
6’2 225 lbs LHP with a traditional delivery and 3 pitch mix, high leg kick with a deep reach back and full arm circle before triggering toward home. Power pitch style here with an aggressive feel to the delivery, seems to have a feel for locating his pitch mix. Fastball sits low 90s with what looks to be some natural armside run off his 3/4 slot. Tight action to the slider with gloveside bend to it, not a wide sweeper here but enough depth induce chase and sneak under barrels. Seems like a circle-change grip, pulls back his extension a bit on this pitch but seems to command it well and pull the string low in the zone. Plus athlete on the mound with an extremely fluid delivery, everything works at once and has the balance sink into his lower half and change pace when needed.
Middle relief type of profile here for a competitive collegiate team. Can fit as a midweek or bullpen innings eater who can matchup vs LHH’s on occasion in tight spots. Upside to the profile here remains, a full year under ACC player development could enhance his pitch qualities significantly.
