You guys wanna know why Perry didn’t start last year?

“It’s hard to pick out one thing I learned the most, but I definitely learned more than I ever known about football this year,” Perry said. “Before I got here I really didn’t know how to read defenses and coach Mark Richt and coach Jon Richt did a great job at teaching me that, but I also learned a lot of new skills about ball security and working on fundamentals.”

In particular, Perry said, “The main thing that they did was they taught me how to watch film. I didn’t know how to watch film before I got here. They taught me what I should look at and it’s really about repetition. You really got to be in the film room. It’s not really about game day. It’s more about preparation.”


He didnt know how to read defenses or watch film properly....imagine throwing that kid out there? He probably would’ve been picked apart like Blackman. He’s also 187 now and plans to add another 10 before the season.

A bit more refreshing than when we used to hear about our guys first learning how to watch film........once they were in the NFL.
 
It was ridiculous to expect him to start but I wish he could have gotten in some field play instead of wasting it on that fake QB called Evan.
 
I think it all worked out for the best. Perry got to shirt and learn without pressure and Rosier was able to guide the ship to 10 wins. With that said, I never want to see another year like this one where we had no other option at QB than to play a guy who probably should have never been on scholarship here. I like the fact that this staff grabs a blue chip quarterback every cycle instead of just hoping one guy can pan out.

Also, I'm glad he redshirted. I see no reason to waste a year of eligibility just to get a couple of snaps in mop up duty. We didn't exactly have a lot of blowout wins this year. Malik played almost every snap.
 
Whether it’s perry or in a surprise upset Williams we are trending up next year. Both qbs are far more accurate, elusive and better playmakers than malik
 
So there is more to being a good QB at Miami than message board predictions?

Williams has impressed with accuracy at the AAA practices, more polished as a qb than they realized
 
They probably would have destroyed Perry if they threw him out there this year. Like I said before the season, there’s no question he has great talent. But that talent would have been useless if he was clueless out there.

I just hope Perry is a real student of the game and not another minimal prep guy.

based on what he just said, and what I've seen on tape of him he really desires to be great

Not rocket science to figure out why he didn't start - not an EE and just wasn't ready. Takes a special kind of kid to start as a true FR - not many of them out there (who aren't EEs).
 
I would say the vast majority of HS quarterbacks don't know how to really watch and analyze film. The difference is they still start and end up just being an average passer regardless of their level of talent. If successful most are because of running, which is more instincts than analyzing.
 
Might have saved this kid's career by not rushing him and giving him the shirt. How many talented dudes have been completely derailed by getting thrown to the wolves too early?

Not only wasn’t he an EE but he came from a super basic scramble ball offense where they just snapped it to him and hoped he could make a play.

JaScory was probably one of those kids who could have used a RS season. hUh. But that's all moot now.
