You can blame Gattis, but it’s Mario

I refuse to suspend reality for comfort. We’re just fooling ourselves if we thing Mario is going to elevate our program. We have a huge sample size from which to draw sound conclusions. He’s not the guy. Oregon succeeded in spite of Mario, not because of him.
Let’s say for argument sakes that you are right. Mario is not the answer.

Do you actually think after one season that the University of Miami is going to fire Mario? No chance. None. Zero. Zippo. Nilch.

This team is horrible in every aspect, that’s coaching. I don’t care how bad your talent is you have to be good at atleast something. This team fails everywhere. The coaching staff is trash. All the 5 star players in the world won’t fix that.

What is his offensive philosophy?

If he wants to run the ball, there are plenty of spread guys that run the **** out of the football and score a ****-ton of points.

He could've hired one of them.
Mario wants a power spread offense that can be multiple. He wants to one series run 12 personnel while running the ball and using play action and killing the clock then maybe later run 11 personnel while Uptempo and airing it out. The problem with that is the playbook is massive and it makes things difficult to learn. It's why the offense looks like we're just asking Madden and throwing a bunch of different **** at the wall. Lashlee playbook was simple with not a lot of variations, when you do that players just play fast and don't have to think much.

Exactly!

Just like I tell my investors all the time, just give me the money now & don’t worry about it when you’ll get your return, in 10 or 20 something years we’ll all be richer than we are now, or dead.

Then they always say something about a ponzi scheme or something like that, but once I get the money I stop listening...
Nevin? Is that you?

Mario needs to get out of his own way and hire an elite OC and let him run the offensive show. His style of play has no business in our offense. He should learn from Dabo and be a CEO type that focuses on recruiting.
It's his only hope since he sucks at everything else outside of coaching up the o-line which Mirabal can do anyway.

The biggest red flag with this is a CEO head coach needs to nail his hires and he so far has been horrid at that as well.

Mario is a Butch guy, in fact he has his own Bill Miller X2 as his coordinators. The Erickson Bratkowski/Lubick team is a fond distant memory.
So it was just instilled in him by his mentor, just seems odd none of his approach came from his playing days. Kind of ironic that had he been in a power run game scheme he wouldn't have had 2 titles here, no way a 250 lb OT would have been on the team.

Agreed man but given that we're stuck with him and he's not an elite coach at either side of the ball I think it's the only path to any type of success.

A lot of spreads are based off the run. People hear spread and automatically think air raid.

You are right. I don't know the scuttlebutt regarding Mario's, or any other former players aversion to Erickson (He won two NC and had his strengths and weaknesses like anyone else.), but clearly this group has more in common with Butch. Recruiting is the strength, coaching is below average to bad, and in this day and age of the transfer portal I don't think stacking chips is possible.

What about Steele? FSU unbalanced and going through us like a knife thru diarrhea, and none of the coaches ever thought to shift anybody over?

Thanks, I was 5-8 during Mario’s career here so all I can really do is go back to the stats and some of the game film during that period of time. I didn’t really understand what I was watching during that time and I obviously didn’t follow spring and all the minutia back then either.

I understand why fans are upset. However, I am not ready to give up on Mario.

Don’t get me wrong…what I’ve seen this season on the field has been unwatchable. But, there is no chance he gets fired, so I have no choice but to blindly support him. I‘m hoping he makes changes to the staff and the new hires make up for his ineptitude on the field.

I know that doesn’t sound like a massive endorsement, but it’s the truth. We don’t have any other realistic option. He isn't going anywhere.
Scary as **** I'm not sure if we will be any good if we have 5 star players at every position
