WR's Coach Candidates

Didn’t that poster who had the “surprise commit” thing first say it wasn’t going to be Cooney?

Wyatt or McCarthy would be excellent additions to the staff. Both have deep recruiting roots and understand the technical aspect of WR play which would help the kids immensely. I don't get the feeling Diaz is looking that way.

It's already been reported Lashlee's is bringing over two support staff guys from SMU with him, Jonathan Brewer & Kyle Cooper. Brewer was a QC Analyst who's worked as an assistant QB's coach, assisted WR's at Auburn with Lash & Kodi Burns & worked with OL's at UConn, while Cooper is a GA & worked alongside the OL.

Neither of these guys IMO will be on field position coaches at WR & OL coach, I believe they're both being brought on as a QC analysts with Lashlee. I certainly hope Diaz wouldn't be dumb enough to make the same mistake twice & let the OC bring in a couple of green Corches.

The compromise should be, while its understandable he probably wants to bring in his guys to help implement & teach his system, he can bring them in as Quality control guys & assist with that process, but we MUST have legit recruiters at WR & OL coach, can't afford to waste a season with coaches at those spots who can't recruit at a high level.

DJ McCarthy - Was at FAU with Kiffin for the last 3 years, was at FAMU a year & Bethune Cookman for 4 years, before that coached at LSU for 3 years under Les Miles & was a high rated recruiter from 07-10. Also coached at UCLA under Karl Dorrell's staff (was Dino Babers assistant WR's coach at UCLA as a QC), also coached at UCF when Brandon Marshall was there under George O'Leary.

Is a local South Fla guy from Boca Raton & coached at Atlantic Delray Beach HS & founded a WR's academy which if you don't know, teaches young WR's how to run their routes, catch the ball, how to improve their speed, proper conditioning, doing drill work etc., & is a place where college draft prospects go to once they declare for the draft & need a place to prepare for the combine & continue to refine their craft. He's one of my top picks for WR coach, he'd kill it here IMO.

Darrell Wyatt - Current WR's coach at UCF, had Dredrick Snelson (who was originally at BTW, then transferred to AH & Flanagan) with back to 695/688yds seasons in 2017/18 & was a productive player, along with UCF's WR's Gabe Davis who ended up with 72rec 1,241yds & 12TD's this season, Tre Nixon with 49rec 830yds 7TD's & Marlon Williams with 51rec 717yds as the 3rd WR.

Was WR's coach at Ark St under Blake Anderson, was at Houston with Tom Herman for a season, was also an analyst for Mike Gundy at OK St & coached at Texas as WR's coach from 2011-13 when Diaz was DC. Also coached at Southern Miss when Larry Fedora was HC there.

Long time savvy vet WR coach, can recruit & teach the technical aspects of the WR position, plus would know Lashlee's offense being that's it's similar to what Heupel runs at UCF. It's rumored that he might be getting hired at TCU but it hasn't been made official yet, would definitely hire him in a heartbeat if I'm Diaz.

David Gru - Was Lashlee's WR's coach at SMU, was an analyst at TCU & was a GA at Cal under Sonny Dykes.
Not really too high on him tbh, other than being able to implement Lash's system I don't think he'd do much of anything here as a recruiter. Only listing because he was SMU's WR's coach, don't think he'd actually come here.

Ra'Shaad Samples - An assistant WR's coach for SMU, was at Texas in 2018 with Herman as an analyst & on campus recruiter & was at Houston with Darrell Wyatt as GA in 2016/17 under Herman. Originally played at OK St when Wyatt was WR's coach, then transferred to Houston & finished his playing career there, then became a GA.

He's a young upcoming coach, I wouldn't hire him as a the full time position coach this season, he's a Texas guy that I doubt would even leave to come here, but is a name to keep up with in the next few years if Lashlee sticks around for longer than a season, has potential to become a good recruiter, would bring in as an analyst until he maturates into a full WR's coach.

Frank Wilson - Was HC at UTSA but was fired last month, was AHC/RB's coach at LSU under Les Miles & was well respected recruiter. Coached WR's at Tennessee under Lane Kiffin, also was RB's coach/Recruiting coordinator at Southern Miss with Fedora & coached at Ole Miss as RB's Coach for Ed Orgeron.

Is a New Orleans guy & is well respected recruiter locally down there in Louisana, obviously not a traditional pure WR's coach but is well known to be a recruiter, literally the only reason he's ever on any staff is recruit. Wouldn't be my first choice, but would take absolutely to help improve our recruiting.

George McDonald - Was the Co-OC & WR's coach at NC St for Dave Doeren, long time veteran coach who was at Miami as WR's coach in 2011/12 with Folden, also coached at Cuse under Scott Shafer.

NC recently hired Tim Beck (Herman's OC at Texas) as their new OC just two days ago & McDonald is still on staff but was demoted from Co-OC with Des Kitchens to just WR's coach & Recruiting coordinator. Kitchens was their RB's coach & OC but he got fired & replaced by Tim Beck as OC & Kurt Roper as RB's coach. I doubt we would bring back McDonald but with him essentially being knocked down in status, IF we missed on other coaches would see if he's interested in leaving NC St.

Aubrey Hill - Current WR's coach at FIU, was HC at Carol City from 2012-16 & lead CC to a State championship title in 2016. Is a Gaytor that played & coached under Spurrier but is a local from Miami (CC) & was at Miami with Shannon for 3 years & actually did a good job recruiting WR's. Doubt we would go back to Hill, but just from a recruiting standpoint I wouldn't be against it.

These are just a few, there's several others that we could bring in, will probably add a few more until we know who we're hiring at this spot.
You need to do post like this more often fam. Good ****.

The fact that we haven’t named someone means that Stubbs was staying. They didn’t force him out cause they had a better option. That’s the scary part. Stubbs was the one who left on his own
Yeah it would have made it worse if they turned around and hired someone without during a search.

Sorry if this was already asked but does he have an relation to Horace? That guy was an awesome CANE!
Horace played at Evans in Orlando when a cousin of mine was a teacher at Evans (long time ago). I doubt he's related to Kelton, but could be wrong.

did they just start the search afterStubbs left? Legit questions. If they knew they were keeping Stubbs then they should have been already searching for a weeks. Stubbs was staying if he didn’t decide to leave

I dont have a clue to be honest. That would be dumb their part if they started their search after he left. I mean as soon as Stubbs was getting offers I would have started making calls.

He should of kept him. He did nothing to lose his job. He was just a bit overwhelmed recruiting down here but I'm sure he would eventually get the hang of it.
Lol by all accounts he wasn’t received well down here at all. There’s absolutely nothing to suggest that would change. His own room of guys didn’t like him either. Not a good sign
