The way we are operating in this portal is slow and risky imo. I’m not panicked but acting like this has been a GOOD start to the portal would be absurd.

Honest question.....is he asking us permision on what visits he can and cant take? How did we "allowed" him to visit exactly?

Its been said the program did not want to do this out in the open with the team practicing and focusing on the Fiesta Bowl. Indiana signed the 31st ranked HS class and 51st the year before. They are primarily a portal and upperclassmen operation. They don't have to worry about keeping the 4* and 5* young guys happy.

Miami has a lot of young talent that might be ready to get on the field that is being recruited over.
If Perich/Thornton visited and committed and that caused a ST/depth piece like Dylan Day to pull a Donta Simpson and hit the portal, would that have been worth it? I honestly don't know.

On the one hand, this does smell a bit like CYA messaging after being slow out of the gate. On the other, you'd hate to lose depth and practice bodies in the middle of a run.

Playing snaps and signing big name guys is different. They’ll get someone at TE that will be a blocker/role player like Bauman. There’s a D2 kid I think they’re looking at. Good blocking ratings but not much as a pass catcher

Well if you get him to visit first and sign you effectively don’t allow him to visit anywhere else… kinda how that works

okay and he better actually be good at blocking, and I will maintain just resigning yourself to having 1 of you 11 starter being objectively bad/ a detriment to the pass game is a bad strategy. But hey maybe I just thought we were TEU… sad to see

Im not saying that at all. What Im saying is all they can do is make the offer...you dont know if has no interest in UM..you dont know if the kid wants to be here or not. You are making a lot of assumptions about what is actually happening.

… it’s the coaches job to successfully recruit players, so yeah you can say that about literally every player. It’s their job to ID top players and land their targets.

100% agree...I'm just not making the assumption they are not doing it.
Given the W/L record over the last two seasons and the playoff run this year thats not blind faith.

I’m not saying they aren’t doing it. I’m sure they have their top secret plans in effect. I’m questioning whether they are succeeding or not in a NEW portal schedule where you can’t afford to be late cause there is no spring portal AND we have the CFP games (and hopefully another one next week!). So imo it was more critical than ever to be far more agreessive regarding the timing of all this, and like every other recruitment (hs, coaches, portal) it appears we are going slow, and unnecessarily keeping things top secret

Well that may all very well be true...or not.
We shall see soon enough...but again given what the record is the last two years they have earned the benifit of the dought until we see the final product in my eyes.
