It’s not as complicated as you wanna think it is. And not getting a single commitment publicly when even other playoff teams have like 5+ each isn’t great. Missing on our top qb and not even getting a visit isn’t great. Not getting (apparently choosing) a top WR isn’t great. Choosing to completely ignore TE is imo horrible. Allowing the guy who others think may be our top target (perch) to visit one of the biggest bag schools around isn’t good. Maybe it doesn’t end with them getting him, but it’s more likely to end with us having to pay more if that’s the case.

I’m sure a lot of stuff is happening in secret. But also this has been the case over and over with Mario where he thinks he’s in the cia. It’s truly not that important for some of this stuff to be top secret, and it’s also just a fact that Mario operates VERY slowly.

The way we are operating in this portal is slow and risky imo. I’m not panicked but acting like this has been a GOOD start to the portal would be absurd.

It’s tough to do. That’s why you tamper and try to get it done ASAP. At a certain point you have to be 100% focused on the game week. So if you didn’t act with immediacy early, you really get put behind the ball. Last couple years it wasn’t so bad because of the spring portal window. That no longer exists. For multiple years now we’ve relied on like last minute flips from HS and have gone slow with portal additions. It’s just obviously a risky strategy - more so now than ever ESPECIALLY with us still being in the CFP.

But again my problem is some of the strategy and just fully failing to even get some visits or target good enough guys…. The TE portal strategy is straight up baffling to me with Schott leaving. Like idk how anyone looks at our TE performance this season and roster there for next season and isn’t extremely alarmed tbh.

Like you’re saying what do you expect them to do….but if I’m not mistaken Indiana and Ole Miss are in the same exact position, are they not? Now I do think situations are different given they have more clear needs due to guys leaving with lesser depth. But to me it’s like we went in with same portal strategy as last year, but now the fact is we are still in CFP and there is no spring portal. The strategy should have been far more aggressive early is what I’m saying. This is very risky, unless they fully have guys in that are no risk to getting out bid elsewhere… like it seems to me we are REALLY hoping that all this **** is just on some CIA level ****…

Well if they did more than I think, they had **** wrapped up tight as ****. But again my point with that is there is genuinely no reason this needs to be zero dark thirty there lol.

I have zero doubt they were working the portal. The question is did they have success…. That’s all that matters. And I’d rather have announcements and contracts signed.

Also idgaf how many people think we don’t value the TE position, when we literally play 2 TEs more than our 3rd or 4th wr… so do we devalue WR?
