Wisconsin officially sues Miami over Xavier Lucas

Do we really want to give this attention? Cause nothing will come out of it. Even the NCAA, who surely would've investigated if foul play was actually at hand, didn't do **** because Lucas' lawyer had his guns loaded.

Wisconsin tried to bind a player with a contract (illegal) based on a settlement where the ruling didn't exist yet. I can't wait to be convicted of a crime that's not written into law but may be written into one in six months.

But cool, have them take the L. It's even more pathetic that they're not suing Lucas for breach of contract but only the university for tampering in hopes of receiving money.
They’re suing Miami for Future Crime.

So from what I understand, Wisconsin what's to be the crash test dummies on a lose lose situation for universities in this situation. My dad told me long ago, you can be right, but dead right. For instance, you see a four way intersection, you have a green light, you see an 18 wheeler barreling down the red light. Now you can proceed, but you are going to get slammed by an 18 wheeler, but you would be dead right.

So I view it this way, and I am no lawyer, nor do I play one on TV.

1. This is a civil suit against UM and the Athlete, for UM tampering for someone under contract. 2. for Student for breech of contract.

Ok, so you win, what are your "damages" here. The kid in the contract for any paid money they gave, and "unrealized" profit from that contract. Well, that is another whole can of worms because it exposes you to how much you REALLY are earning off these students. (Brilliant) 2. Miami - interference with someone under contract. On that one, damages are what 100k, 1M, 10M.

How much does Wisconsin get in awards here if they "Win"? In the big scheme of things, nothing of real value. Lawyer fees? lol

What does it do to Wisconsin lose here? Well, recruiting takes a huge hit, in that big name athletes are going to steer clear of any university willing to SUE them.

Again, I don't see Wisconsin's end game here, other than splashy click bait headlines, but ultimately, it hurts them. Even if they "Win", which I trust UM law to tear them a new *******.

PS. Discovery would be super fun on this....

So what are they seeking? Monetary damages? Xavier Lucas sent back to them?!
The case will be dismissed, but in general, there’s no specific performance on employment contracts, so there’s no chance he ends up back with whisky. And he’s also not an employee (wink wink)

Interested in your take on the situation. Could this just be optics for something bigger the conferences are trying to push through?

Lucas left Wisconsin in December.

I doubt they expect to win the lawsuit. But the FUD will stop other athletes from transferring out.

They didn't sue Lucas, just UM, according to Yahoo. Without seeing the actual complaint we really would have to speculate on a lot of this, but I share your thoughts on how they could set forth damages without saying what, how, and when Lucas was being paid. And how you argue what appears to be contractual restraint issues against athletes who are supposedly not employees is an interesting argument.

Look at this nonsense.

First of all, "the enforcement of tampering" is NOT "hamstrung by court orders". Name all the court orders preventing the NCAA from enforcing tampering rules. The reality is that tampering is nearly impossible to prove. Period. Full stop.

Second, check the dates.

Yet, originally they stated they were going to sue him, but agreed.
