I’ve never understood how it was ever acceptable to fly that flag. Aside from what it means to blacks - oppression, slavery etc., it is the flag of traitors and represents a rebellion against this country. If you love this country how could you like this flag ?

And don’t tell me it isn’t the confederate flag. Ok it wasn’t the actual flag of the CSA. It still represents the confederacy or confederate army.

Right.

It is not the actual Confederate flag, it is the battle flag. I am saying that NOT to "justify" it, but to point out how "the South will rise again" nutjobs are deliberately misleading people on the true intent of displaying the battle flag.

The flag I showed is a BATTLE FLAG. The Confederate generals wanted a DIFFERENT battle flag, because the "stars and bars" looked too much like the American flag during battles.

After the Civil War, when the losers/traitors were busy building the "Lost Cause" myth (Google it), they began to use the BATTLE flag as an affront against Northerners and Blacks. These people can print up brochures calling it "Heritage, Not Hate", but the reality is that it is, indeed, hate. If it was about "heritage", they would display the ACTUAL flag of the Confederacy.

But by displaying the BATTLE flag, the "Lost Causers" are signalling that they refuse to "surrender", that the "South will rise again", and that (to them) the War is not over.

I agree with you completely, the Confederate battle flag represents the Confederate army, the "Lost Cause" myth, and the concept that "southerners" are still fighting the Civil War.

Anyways;

To the dolts that keep saying the Confederate Flag is apart of Southern Heritage:

NO ITS NOT, STUPID. The flag was called the Stars and Stripes, and it wasn’t until the war, this flag was introduced.

The Confederate Flag represents the rebellion against the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA b/c it was told, YOU CAN’T USE PEOPLE FOR FREE, FORCED LABOR ANYMORE.

The Confederate Flag represents a stand AGAINST the Union.

The Confederate Flag represents a belief system that was ABOLISHED.

The Confederate Flag is holding on to an ideology that whites are superior to blacks, and thus should be enslaved to them.

The Confederate Flag is a symbol of division, that made America, for a four year stretch, equivalent to the civil unrest that’s found in 3rd world countries.

The Confederate Flag is a symbol of family division, as literal brothers were killing each to protect or fight against the rights to be LAZY and have forced labor to cultivate their lands.

Furthermore, The Confederate Flag is a constant reminder that the South got their @$$es KICKED in their own back yard!

The Rebs lost the war. America doesn't, or shouldn't, honor losers who fought four the wrong cause. Canedog flies the American flag and the flag four The U.

The myth of the "Lost Cause", which the Southerners created after they lost the Civil War, is the same as the myth of "Stabbed in the Back" that the Germans created after they lost World War I.

The South used the "Lost Cause" myth to oppress former slaves for another 100 years after the Civil War, and the Germans used the "Stabbed in the Back" myth to justify the murder of over 7 million Jews before and during WWII.

Flying this flag is ignorant. Assuming that all people with conservative values cherish that flag is equally ignorant...

The American flag is "stars and stripes".

The Confederate flag was "stars and bars".

The use of the Southern cross (for the battle flag) was a feature that was intended to distinguish the flags in battle.

After Reconstruction, numerous former Confederate states found obvious or subtle ways to pay homage to the Confederate battle flag, including Florida, which has featured the Southern cross (in red) on its state flag since 1900, in intentional defiance.

Before the Civil War, the flag of Florida was plain white, with the state seal in the middle.

The Southern cross only came about during the "Lost Cause" myth building, starting in 1900.

What I’m saying is that there was no Confederate Flag prior to the War. The Confederate Flag is the symbolism of independence & rebellion towards the Union. I know Stars & Bars were their initial flag, but to your point, it looked too much like the U.S Flag.

Just gonna leave this here before the thread is locked...

And before anyone tries to say the Stars & Bars doesn't represent racism but "Southern heritage".

Well that might the interpretation you use to justify it, but the actual inventor of the Flag doesn't think so & stated explicitly that it represented racism.

I don't care if you fly or wear the flag proud, do as you please, just don't lie & be disingenuous & try to act as if you're not making a statement about race because you are. The Southern Heritage excuse is invalid.

Its a sly way to give certain people a forum tbat doesn't involve The U's football team
But it's fun to read the comments. I get a kick out of it...

You are the pot AND the kettle.

You single-handedly changed the College Football Hall of Fame thread into a political thread.

It's just what you do. Over and over and over again.

For the record, he created the second flag of the Confederacy. The first one ("the stars and bars") was just a cheap knock-off of the American flag.

He created "the stainless banner" (Confederate flag #2) and "the blood-stained banner" (Confederate flag #3).

First, the Southern Cross is a star constellation that predates the Civil War. Let's not get the mob demanding constellations be renamed.

Second, the Florida flag does not in any way pay homage to the Confederacy. The flag was just the seal on a white background and the legislature changed it to avoid looking like a surrender flag. The bars were added in the shape of a St. Andrews cross. They closely resemble the Cross of Burgundy that flew over the fort at St. Augustine.

Lastly, some historians see the addition of a red saltire as a commemoration of Florida's contributions to the Confederacy by Governor Fleming, who served in the 2nd Florida Regiment of the Confederate army.[9] The addition was made during a period of nostalgia for the "Lost Cause" around the time of the flag's change.[10][11] According to historian John M. Coski, the adoption of Florida's flag coincided with the rise of Jim Crow laws and segregation,[12] as other former Confederate slave states, such as Mississippi and Alabama, also adopted new state flags around the same time when those states instituted Jim Crow segregation laws themselves:[12]

The flag changes in Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida coincided with the passage of formal Jim Crow segregation laws throughout the South. Four years before Mississippi incorporated a Confederate battle flag into its state flag, its constitutional convention passed pioneering provisions to 'reform' politics by effectively disenfranchising most African Americans.
