JJ hands down! Dude took what Schelly started and put it on a whole other level. JJ revolutionized the way college football is played/coached/recruited today. No question in my mind that had JJ not gone to Dallas we'd be talking about atleast 3-4 more natty's. He had it down pegged and had created a monster. The run Miami had in the late 80's, 90's, and even early 2000's can all be attributed to Jimmy Johnson.

I still get chills every time I hear him say, "I was born and raised in south Texas. I went to school at the Univ of Arkansas and won a national championship on an undefeated team. But my home is South Florida. And my school is the University of Miami."

Howard was the man, but it was JJ’s defense that defined our true greatness. JJ is logical because he was the best but then again he choked in two NC game, with one with perhaps the greatest team ever. Plus he loss another in south bend— yes we were cheated. I voted for Butch because of the talent level. He helped in JJ’s recruiting and when it was his alone put the greatest collection ever— not just college but pro talent. You have to wonder how many years of 4 or5 first round picks a year he would have eventually give us.

In truth, any of Howard, JJ or Butch would have been great. Dennis had severe recruiting failure so we got all he had in him. All said and done, along with so many greatest ever thing we own, we also had the greatest successive string of coaches ever.

Jimmy.

Butch was probably needed more because the program wasn’t ranked directly after Jimmy. However, I get the feeling if Butch was coach when Shapiro showed up we’d have gotten the death penalty for sure.

That defense he had at UNC was nasty too. I think he was just good at his job. Wont be surprised if fiu does what fau did last year

I totally agree, but they weren't the caliber of the Miami guys. I'm not saying at all that Butch was a bad coach. What I'm basically saying is that considering what we looked like in 2000-2002, we probably all have unrealistic expectations of what Butch may have been able to sustain.

Let's not forget Butch left right before all the recruiting sites started getting big.

Can’t change the past.

If I’m going to fantasize about impossible things, I’ll fantasize about living in an open air mansion on a secluded tropical island, surrounded by a turquoise lagoon, and staffed only by beautiful women all who have the hots for me and live to please me and attend to my every need.

These pretend “if this, then that” scenarios are straight BS. So if I’m to engage in BS, it’s going to be about pu$$y.

eaaaasily Jimmy Johnson. Idk how anyone could pick otherwise. Ofcourse this is hindsight, but he's literally the only super bowl winning coach on the list.

Note sure how super bowls matter for college success. I loved Jimmy and he was the perfect choice at the time.

However, that time came because Howard built the foundation. Jimmy never had to do that, so we'll never know what he might have done in the same position. For the Cowboy fans who point to what he did with what he inherited in Dallas, there is no college comparison for what the Walker trade meant and having a number 1 overall pick....

I vote Howard. Seriously, can you imagine the stranglehold he would have had on the tri-county for more than a decade before the internet and social media?

Of course, that assumes he'd stay and there is no reason to expect that of any of the coaches in question.

I'm going with the two men who actually started it all, "The State of Miami", the swagger, the never say die attitude, and that's Howard 1A and JJ 1B.

First of all, BOTH actually won Championships. No woulda, coulda, shoulda's

Those two are the reason we now have a national fanbase. Everyone who came after them built on what they achieved and tried to imitate their success.

Those two laid the foundation, built the template, and set ALL the standards that ALL following Miami coaches are measured against

Had EITHER stayed, this program would have been a dynasty that would have been the envy of college football, the likes never seen before nor since

I voted Randy because if he got another year we wouldn’t have hired that sack of **** Golden and his fat mongoloid DC

I was bummed when Howard left having experienced that first NC in person. What he did was special. When JJ left I was flat out depressed, probably affected me more than the others. Probably more ****ed about Butch than anything else. In hindsight, I’d go with JJ.
