Where your money is going

Then tell the original poster to stop whining about research expenses. That has nothing to do with athletics.

OK.

OP, stop whining about research expenses.

All good?

While we're at it, though, why does shining a light on how the University spends it's money in other areas, not related to athletics, bother you?

unrestricted cash and assets are not earmarked. restricted cash and assets are.

"Unrestricted net assets are donations to nonprofit organizations that can be used for general expenses or any other legitimate purpose of the nonprofit."

Right, and they have plenty of legitimate purposes that don't include paying a new offensive coordinator. That is up to the athletic department to fund.

Because of the erroneous intent behind the post. Don't get self-righteous and act as though there are a bunch of scholars here who want to know how we're spending research money. Most people, including the guy who posted it, don't even know what a university actually does.

An institution of higher learning spends money on...wait for it...EDUCATION AND RESEARCH?!?!? GASP!!!!

Odds are that 80% of the mopes on this website don't donate a dime to the school anyway.

Right, because if you're not a top 10 institution, you have to be dominant in football.
Miami wasn't, isn't, nor ever will be top 10. They are not even top 50. The school is sliding into irrelevance. Returning to the status of a place rich kids go to college for vacation when they get rejected from their parents alma mater. They had better do something. Academics isn't it. Football is something it can do well if it focuses on it due to it having a built in advantage because of proximity. Everyone involved in every facet of this school is a failure right now.

With so much money being spent on the Medical School and research, why is this university tanking in academics? Something STILL isn’t right. From what you guys are saying, it sounds like the Medical School is still losing a LOT of money. Wasn’t Frenk hired to fix this?

Academics "isn't it"? There are thousands of colleges, and Miami is in, what, the top 60?

It bothers me because it's misleading people who may not be aware about how funds are delineated at the university.

The inference he wants people to draw is that the school could take some research money and put it to the football program.

If that's not accurate, it needs to be corrected. This is not a Trump rally. Truth matters.

Miami is a national university, there are not thousands of those. If you want to add liberal arts schools into the mix, Miami is even further from the top. Sun tan U is only prestigious academically to the alumni.
