I realize that not everyone has experience with higher education, but an athletic department is expected to be self-sufficient. They set their budget based on ticket sales and donations. They don't get budget dollars from the university. Hope this was helpful.

Oh the bottom was the total, I thought it was an undisclosed position that was similar. Still add 1.2 to Shalalaalaala and we have what we need. Plus, it's gotta be more now

Those involved buyouts and aren’t actual annual salaries.

expected. not must. you act like unrestricted cash is not unrestricted.

What’s more important to our community a college football team or producing future doctors and nurses? You choose

Don't need to choose. Yet another straw man argument. The athletic department has enough revenue to be competitive, and could generate a lot more if it was being handled efficiently. The school can be good at all things it does, there is no need to choose to be good at some things and bad at others.

Then tell the original poster to stop whining about research expenses. That has nothing to do with athletics.

Dollars that come into a university are typically earmarked for certain expenses. You're acting as though the general budget can slide $10 million over to athletics every year. That's not how it works.
unrestricted cash and assets are not earmarked. restricted cash and assets are.

"Unrestricted net assets are donations to nonprofit organizations that can be used for general expenses or any other legitimate purpose of the nonprofit."
