Where do Pro Bowlers come from?

We've often heard that South Florida produces the most "cream of the crop" talent in the country.

So I decided to check it out for myself. I took a look at the 2018 Pro Bowl selection. Here is a list of all the players selected for this year's Pro Bowl, and where they went to high school.

Out of 86 total players selected, SIX hailed from South Florida.

Those players are Antonio Brown (Miami FL), Joey Bosa (Ft Lauderdale), Geno Atkins (Ft Lauderdale), Ryan Shazier (Plantation), Xavier Rhodes (Miami FL), and Patrick Peterson (Pompano Beach)

That's not bad, but it's nothing spectacular either. It suggests that South Florida is a good region for producing football players, but it doesn't set it apart necessarily.

Here is the breakdown of players selected by state. California topped the list, followed by Texas and Ohio tied for second place. Florida came in a strong fourth with 8 total players.

And here is the full list by position:

I'm a Miami Hurricanes fan and alumnus.

That doesn't mean I have to buy the kool aid on South Florida kids, does it? Especially when half of them don't even choose to come here (and none on that Pro Bowl list, by the way).

I get that you're a proud local, Tony, but not all 'Canes are. People come from all over America to attend the U.

What “kool aid,” you idiot?

There’s more players from the City of Miami in the NFL than any other city in the country. Pointing out that SIX kids from South Florida are pro bowlers in one random year—as many as the entire state of georgia—doesn’t help whatever “point” you’re attempting to make.

So stop making these dumb threads. You’re empirically wrong. South Florida produces the best football players in the country. That’s why the entire country is camped out recruiting here. That’s why Miami had 25 NFL players in 2016. Ft. Lauderdale had 16. That’s 41 NFL players from two counties alone, if that—not even counting Palm Beach. The next highest city was Houston at 16. Again, you’re empirically wrong so you aren’t going to convince anybody of whatever you’re trying to convince them about. Stop spamming the board with stupid threads.

My conclusion is that you should post less.

I can't take your data seriously when you consistently get it wrong. Bobby Wagner is from Canada? Michael Thomas and Tyron Smith are from LA, not Ohio and Texas. Taylor Lewan is from Arizona. And I only checked about a sixth of your list.

Even taking the numbers at face value, South Florida outproduced all but four states and matched the entire state of Georgia. And this was in a down year after 9 Pro Bowlers last season.

The LA metropolitan area, with double the population of South Florida and more than five times the land area, had a good year with 7. Everyone else lags behind considerably.

We live in the densest, most fertile recruiting area in the world. You're arguing against gravity.

Yeah, maybe we need another guy who uses terms like natty in every other post. And several times in some posts. That's the ticket.

Maybe we need someone who takes every 5th round talent and pretends they are 3nd round, just because he's a Cane, and takes a 3rd round talent and pretends he is 1st round.

Guys who run down the forthcoming schedule with nothing but, "we'll dominate...we'll roll..."

There are a ton of guys here who fit that template. And it is indeed laughable.

I don't mind someone who may slant slightly the other direction.

people actually care about the pro bowl?.

This thread is a joke, just like comparing the tri county area to anywhere else in this country.

Dont most of yall think football is dying anyway and that soccer is on the come up due to cte in your areas?. lol

It's hard to argue because everyone is going to try to win a ****ing match especially on a S.Florida forum. What ever helps the "U" im all for it but I just thought Florida produce fast skill position divas to out flank you. With IMG recruits from all over I'm sure Florida will continue to be a hot bed for skill positions.

I want a break down of Alabama and Georgia's roster.

And here it is.

Alabama has FOUR South Florida kids on the roster. Calvin Ridley, Daniel Wright, Jerry Jeudy, and VanDarius Cowan.

Georgia has SIX South Florida kids on the roster. Sony Michel, Javon Wims, Riley Ridley, Deandre Baker, Latavious Brini, and Juwan Taylor

In my book Don Carter is a Miami product.
