Having a losing season may ultimately be the greater good as it gets Mario here. But as a fan, I still cling to the hope we win the Coastal, maybe even the ACCC, and that Manny goes on to hire an Aranda-level DC during the off season and becomes a legendary head coach.

Here are the minimum changes he needs to make to have any chance of a future at Miami:

The Low Hanging Fruit:
* Get the ball out sooner, no more slow developing RPOs or checkdowns. More slants, timing routes and pre-snap movement so guys are in gear and running downhill when King takes the snap
* More multiple sets on offense. We're way too predictable
* CBs playing aggressive press to add another body in the box
* DTs and DEs having gap integrity responsibility on more snaps. It's fine to stunt and crash down, but sometimes lining up and punishing the guy across from you works, certainly it frees up the LBs.
* Play the freshman now.
-- Move Carter and Chase Smith to start at LB, with Cave coming in when a MLB is needed. Flagg and Jennings should never see another meaningful snap. Steed is a good substitute.
-- Have Gil and James Williams split reps at Striker
-- Have Kinchens taking more and more of Hall's reps
-- C Brown and Knighton need to split reps with Cam, whoever has the hot hand gets the most reps.
-- Use the freshmen WRs in 4/5-WR sets and actually target them on certain package plays
-- Arroyo splits reps with Mallory. He's already the better blocker, and looks like he'll fight for the ball more, too

The hard fixes:
* Do whatever it takes to improve tackling
* Do whatever it takes to improve special teams coverage units
* WRs need to practice blocking because they're horrific
* Get the OL to work as a group. Most of the breakdowns are mental not physical. Gaynor gets roughed up sometimes. But usually it's just bad coordination leaving a man unblocked.

If Manny survives to the offseason, hire a DC, replace Patke, take a very hard look at Justice.

I posted yesterday I might have been a little low on my odds. Which is surprising.
Mario’s dream job *was* Miami once upon a time. However, he’s got a great thing going at Oregon, great pay, and job security. It’s true that him and his wife’s families are all in Miami, and that’s a big pull. He’s also interviewed for the job three times: 2006, 2010, and 2015. Overall, there’s a chance we could pull him, but if Oregon ends up going to the CFP and having a great year I doubt it. We can’t outgun them on salary or resources.

LET IT BURN

Nobody wants to hear this but the odds are greater that Manny turns the program around than the odds of finding a coach that will come in and make Miami a playoff team. That is not a endorsement of Manny but more of a reality check of how hard it is to find a good coach, especially at a school like Miami.

The grass is always greener but there's only about 5 green lawns in the entire development.

Mario ain't coming here... he will lose a couple of more games and the hoopla will die down.
Whether Mario comes or not is immaterial. If Manny underperforms from here on out then he needs to be shown the door along with Blake James. Period.
Allow a real AD to come in and start an actual search. I mean posting an ad on Craigslist to fill a head coaching vacancy would have been going above and beyond what Blake did.

Stopped reading after Mario. He’s not coming here. Not only does he have little interest in this job but Miami isn’t going to pay him what he wants to be paid plus the buyout. Our best hope is for this BOT to wake up, fire Blake, and look at bringing somebody in like Bill Clark, Jamey Chadwell, Luke Fickell, or Billy Napier. A southern hard *** that isn’t going to let things fly or in Luke’s case a mid western hard ***.

Correct...

And like I've been saying for a few days now he would be interested in the job. Not long ago he stated to people in his inner circle and family that it was his destination job. BUT the CIS experts said "no way he leaves Oregon" etc. and you experts know who you are.

AGAIN this isn't an opinion, as long as Miami CALLS and demonstrates a will to win at the highest levels he comes, The Cribster nailed it too, Blake James won't stand in the way this time. That will be taken care of, one way or the other

It's a great list OP. I'd only add:

1) Play disciplined football. Got to eliminate all the dumb penalties. We have way too many that either kill drives or extend the opponent's drives. Got to have a dramatically different mindset and put the team's interests before your own (ego etc).

2) Target the TEs more. We have weapons there. Mallory is a talent. He needs to play tougher, block harder and fight for the ball (be a little more of an alpha dog).

3) Throw the ball to the RBs.

4) Scrimmage more to improve the tackling, toughness and operation of the offense etc.

5) Kick coverage on special teams needs to improve. Change personnel. Fix it. Almost lost us a game.

6) Play Mr. LT. He's a talent. We need some impact players on DL.

7) Play tough, hard-nosed football. Tyrique is physical, fast and has a slight edge to his game. Would love to see that from more of the players.
