What was your biggest surprise this season?

The play of the DBs. By a MILE. Especially the safeties and Scott.

Think about it. We all had years taken off our lives watching whatever the **** that was in the entire back 7 last year.

This year we bring in a mostly backup from Tennessee that they didn’t break the bank to keep.

We bring in a G5 kid who played great last year but again, at the G5 level. Far from a sure thing.

And we bring in a kid who Auburn would’ve personally driven down here had we asked. A complete afterthought for them.

And they go on to completely flip the entire defense on his head, Keionte probably wins the **** Thorpe Award if he doesn’t get hurt, Thomas was the best player on the entire field in the FSU game, Fitzgerald is the lone player who was a non-early enrollee and leads the **** P4 in picks, Poyser has been an ERASER all year.

There is a lot that has to go right to go from what we had to what we have. But my biggest surprise is how completely different this secondary is from last year to this year.

Corey Heatherman for President.

Most of the major ones taken so I’ll go with

Bryce Fitzgerald: 6 INTs from a guy who most people thought would contribute in a few years and maybe not even on defense

Jordan Lyle: if you told me he’d have a healthy season with 35 carries and 108 yards after his freshman year I’d be shocked

Our OL and DL dominating top tier opponents. Not surprised that they bully nc state and pitt, but that we've been able to push around oh at and ND is shocking to me.

Also Mario making in season adjustments.

going from one of the worst defenses in the country and wasting a generational QB to beating National Title favorites with our defense (all within 365 days).

It's actually insane when you really think about it.

Of course the play of certain players have allowed that to happen, but as a unit, to do what they have done, it honestly might be one of the best coaching jobs in Canes history (Heatherman)

-Toney being as good and critical to our success as he is
-Carter Davis being a total stud (his 2024 stat line suggested otherwise)
-Catching reliability of the WR group (very few drops)
-The tent remaining unfolded after loss #2
-The secondary being this good
-The biggest surprise of all in 2025 - a critical game with zero critical penalties (in fact only one penalty in total) called against Miami. 40 year fan - NEVER have I seen that.
